Logitech Google TV launch : The extras

Share

Obviously the star of the show at the Logitech Google TV event in New York was the Revue set top box that will transform your HDTV into an all singing, all dancing internet-powered media station, but there were a few other little launches that are definitely worth a mention.

First up is the Logitech Mini Controller which is a compact companion for your Google TV set top box, quite literally handy if you don’t fancy using the supplied, and rather large, keyboard.

It may be mini, but it functions as a keyboard, touch pad and remote control and gives you all the dedicated commands required to make your Google TV experience seamless.

It has illuminated keys, handy for those late-night film-fests and the lighting even changes colour depending on what mode you’re in with green for navigation and orange for typing and pointing.

The Mini Controller has a built in Li-ion battery that will hold up for about two weeks before a charge is needed and it uses Logitech’s Unifying technology so as you can connect multiple devices.

Next up is the Logitech TV Cam, which will turn your TV into a HD video calling machine, without the need for a separate computer.

The TV Cam connects to your Revue and lets you create HD video chats with anyone with a webcam (or another Revue user, of course).

The system has two directional, digital microphones that are designed to reduce noise and echoes and, when using Logitech’s Vid HD software, you’re broadcasts will send stereo sound.

The camera has a wide angle Carl Zeiss lens and a 5x digital zoom, and you’ll get on screen notifications when someone is calling you.

Finally, Logitech also announced that Harmony app for both the iPhone and Android will be able to control the Revue system.

According to Logitech the app “gives you the full control of your Logitech Revue right from your smartphone. Now your phone’s touchscreen is a keyboard to find shows, a touchpad to browse the web, and a remote control for your home entertainment system”.

The Logitech Mini Controller and the Logitech TV Cam are available to pre-order now, priced at $129.99 and $149.99 respectively, and are expected to ship later this month.
