Goodbye Plastic: Weird Oppo ad teases the launch of the new F-series

Manufacturers are free to market and advertise their devices however they want – but it’s sometimes surprising what gets approved for public consumption. The latest Oppo campaign entitled “Goodbye Plastic” is one that I would put in this bucket. As the splash page suggests, the campaign is to tease the launch of the new F-series smartphone which we can only assume is metal given the campaign’s tagline. However, the campaign also features a trailer (the first of several) which, well, take a look for yourself:

It seems so corny that it could be satire, but clearly Oppo is trying to make the assertion that the F-series is going to made of metal, not plastic. We can only assume Oppo’s marketing team was super psyched about the new Star Wars movie and was playing with a voice synthesizer to make themselves sound like Darth Vader – regardless, this ad goes in the bucket of “super confusing and creepy”. And to think that there is going to be a few more of these in the near future – braces yourselves.
