Just as Google announced the Lollipop update for Android Wear devices, the companion app for smartphones is also receiving an update today. This update is quite substantial in the overall scheme of things as it introduces the Material Design UI, which has been missing from the app so far.
Naturally, the update is only gradually rolling out to devices at the moment, and might take a few days to finish rolling out to the entirety of the Android Wear population across the globe. But if you’re impatient to get your hands on the latest version of the Android Wear companion app, you can manually download the .apk file and sideload it onto your smartphone.
Some of the features of the new app might not be functional until Android Wear devices receive the Lollipop update, although it’s usable for the most part. The UI changes are a welcome addition, but sadly, that’s pretty much it at the moment. Make sure you pick up the apk file for Android Wear 1.0.5 from the link below.
