The app puts users in control of their mobile identity and hopes to help solve the growing problem of unsecured mobile privacy. Burner enables users to obtain disposable numbers for voice and SMS communication. A user can have as many numbers as needed, use each as a private line in the area code of their choice, and “burn” the number whenever it is no longer needed. For example, one number lasts for one day, 5 minutes of voice calls, or 15 text messages (whichever expires first). Once that number is used and expired, you would have to purchase credits to create future numbers. If you need to keep a specific number around for longer than the allocated time, you have the option to purchase extensions to keep it around for as long as needed. With these options, Burner can be quite useful in many different situations: from posting contact information on social media, completing transactions on classified sites, online dating, job searching, professional use, and more.
