Android 2.2 on Nokia N900

It seems as though the development community for Android is growing and achieving great things almost weekly now. We just announced that Android 2.1 has successfully ported to the HTC HD2, which is a wonderful achievement. Now, Android 2.2, aka Froyo, has found its way over to the Nokia N900. Another fantastic feat of accomplishment. As it stands, I do not think Nokia have, or plan to have, an Android based handset. This is understandable given the fact that they develop Symbian, the world’s most commonly used phone OS. Anyway, lets get some info about the port.

Right now, it works via dual boot with overclocking in maemo and is ‘fairly stable’ using Android 2.2. Some of the normal issues developers faces when creating Android ports are also overcome. For example, Wi-Fi works, as does the keyboard. Furthermore, there is sound out of the speakers and phone headset along with sound recording too. If you would like to find out more about the port, what works and even how to get involved, visit this link here at maemo.org … good times. Video after the jump.
