OxygenOS 2.1.4 update now available for the OnePlus One

OnePlus has just released a brand new firmware update for the first-generation OnePlus One. Unfortunately, the software is not available via OTA (Over The Air) — so the only way to get your mitts on the upgrade is to manually flash it to your handset using the company’s desktop software. When doing this, it’s essential that you follow the instructions explicitly or you could risk losing your radio or IMEI.

As this is the exact same update that the manufacturer rolled out to the OnePlus Two last month, some functionality has been removed as it isn’t compatible with the OnePlus One. This means that users of the older handset won’t be able to access the manual camera mode, shoot images in the RAW file format or purchase applications with their fingerprint. They will, however, be able to activate the new Dark Mode, install custom icon packs and change the color of accents.

If you have rooted your OnePlus One, but would like to install the latest version of OxygenOS, the company recommends using its universal update package to recover and install an earlier backup of your handset. This should remove the root and install the firmware. Although, as with any unlocked bootloaders, there is a risk that it may go wrong.
