Samsung has officially begun the roll out of Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4. Since it’s a GPe device, it is first in line among OEM handsets to receive the latest updates. Strangely, the Galaxy S4 is one of the last GPe handsets to get the update with the likes of the HTC One M8, One M7, Sony Z Ultra, the LG G Pad 8.3, the Moto G etc getting the update already.

Unlike other GPe updates though, Samsung hasn’t sent out the Android 5.0.1 update, but just Android 5.0. However, the company should be ready with the latest build anytime soon. It’s not surprising that it has taken this long for Samsung to roll out the update for a stock Android device, given that its focus is solely on TouchWiz running handsets. It will be interesting to see as to how long its Google Play Edition handset will be supported.

So if you own a GPe model of the Galaxy S4, you should expect an update anytime now. If you’ve already received the update on your handset, don’t hesitate to let us know what you think.
