Apps on iPhone 5s Reportedly Crashing Twice as Often as on iPhone 5c and iPhone 5
According to a study by mobile application mangement platform Crittercism, iOS apps are twice as likely to crash on the new iPhone 5s as they are when running on the iPhone 5 and 5c, reports AllThingsD. The app crash rates on the iPhone 5s are attributed to the unforseen issues that developers have had transitioning to the new internals of the iPhone 5s, such as rewriting drivers and code for the phone's 64-bit A7 chip and M7 coprocessor. Apple notably began allowing developers to submit 64-bit apps for the iPhone 5s on September 16, just four days before the launch of the device itself.
“Anytime there is new hardware or software release, we see issues,” Crittercism CEO Andrew Levy said in an interview. “Inevitably, over time, those issues get resolved.”However, the company compliments Apple for releasing two updates in quick succession for iOS 7, stating that the company is "doing a really good job of addressing these issues as they come up.” Since its launch last month, a number of noteworthy apps have been redesigned or optimized for the iPhone 5s, with more developers stating that they will update their apps to accommodate the new processor in the near future.
Levy said that perhaps the reason the iPhone 5s is seeing more crashes than the equally new iPhone 5c is that, while developers were able to check their apps for compatibility with iOS 7 during several months of beta testing, the new hardware wasn’t available ahead of time. The iPhone 5s packs a new 64-bit A7 chip and an M7 coprocessor, while the 5c is nearly identical, internally, to the iPhone 5.

Original Plants Vs. Zombies Updated for iOS 7 and the iPhone 5’s 4-Inch Screen [iOS Blog]

Nokia Lumia 928 lags far behind the iPhone 5 in new screen latency test
A new test developed shows Apple far ahead of Android and Windows Phone for reduced display latency
When it comes to smartphones, screen response time is one of those key features that helps ensure a great user experience. Some of you may recall the use of resistive touch panels on smartphones years ago and how slow those were to respond to touch. Capacitive displays are certainly much quicker, and it’s the reason why touch-typing is so common today, having been accepted by the masses.
The question for one company though is how to measure that display latency i.e. the time it takes for the system to detect and register a touch, thereby launching an app. App streaming company Agawi has come up with a solution called TouchMarks to make accurate and quantifiable measurements in this area and the Lumia 928, while not the worst, is far behind Apple.
iPhone 5 touchscreen latency measured, found to be 2.5x faster than closest Android rival
The touchscreen on the iPhone 5 is 2.5 faster than Android devices when responding to touch input. The iPhone 5 registers touches in 55 milliseconds, compared to 85 milliseconds on the iPhone 4. These measurements come by way of app streaming company Agawi, which measured the iPhone 5 against several Android and Windows Phone devices using their TouchMarks benchmarks:
As you can see, the results are remarkable. At a MART of 55ms, The iPhone 5 is twice as responsive as any Android or WP8 phone tested. All the Android devices’ MARTs fell in the same 110 – 120ms range, with the WP8-based Lumia 928 falling into that bucket as well. (Incidentally, the ranges all span about 16ms, which is expected given the 60 Hz refresh rate of these smartphones. 1/60s = 16.6ms)
The fastest non-Apple device tested was the Samsung Galaxy S4, which registered touch input in 114 milliseconds. The HTC One and Moto X were also tested. Agawi believes that the sensitivity of Apple's screens might be due to better optimization or calibration of the touchscreen hardware on Apple devices, or the fact that iPhone apps are written in Objective-C. Agawi plans to use TouchMarks to measure touch latency on more devices soon, including the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, as well as more Android and Windows Phone handsets.
