Google plans AirTag clone, report indicates

Google is soon to be the latest tech giant to manufacture a Bluetooth tracker. The company is following in the steps of other tech giants like Tile, Apple, and Samsung.Tile Bluetooth trackers are often used to track car keys, luggage, and other valuables that often get lost. Tile has been doing great in the space for around 10 years, but when Apple’s AirTags found big success, other big tech establishments became interested.Naturally, both Samsung and Google decided to jump into the market. Google, for its part, has a secret weapon which could quickly make it the number one or two Bluetooth tracker product worldwide. That assistant? The power of billions of smartphones to help locate the trackers.Introducing GroguExperts like Kuba Wojciechowski reported spotting code for a Google first-party Bluetooth tracker codenamed “Grogu.” He found references that check almost all major box anyone would want in a Bluetooth tracker. This device has a speaker, UWB compatibility, and it supports Bluetooth LE. It is also being reported that the product is built by the Nest team.In case the user doesn’t want to tracker to play a ringtone in order to reveal its location, the Ultra Wide Band (UWB), a radio technology can physically locate the item. UWB needs to be built into the user’s phone. It can successfully find nearby device via a compass-like interface in this way. Some smartphones such as the Pixel 6 Pro, 7 Pro, and high-end Android devices have UWB built into them.See Also: Google is working on a seamless way to transfer Spotify tracks between your devicesLocator Tag OptionEsper’s Mishaal Rahman is another Android expert, who recently revealed information about what he called a locator tag option landing in Google’s Fast Pair developer console. Fast Pair API is the means Google is using to detect and pair to nearby Bluetooth devices. This one shows a pop-up on the screen rather having users go through the hassles of Settings menu.Of course, AirTags have their advantages and disadvantages. It has been used for spying and stalking but let’s hope there will be major improvements when Google finally releases its AirTag.

They’re not overly powerful and don’t boast a ton of playback per charge, but they deliver on expectations. These are a great value for a first-time buyer or for someone who doesn’t demand a lot from their wireless audio. We appreciate being able to adjust the various EQ settings but more often than not the default option perfectly suited our needs. Sound is fairly evenly distributed for the most part with only the occasional flat experience. These work well as a pair or individually, but to get the best controls you’ll want to have both in at the same time. The ‘buttons’ take a little bit of time to figure out as they don’t click or provide tactile feedback but once you get them squared away you’ll be alright.Where to Buy the SOUNDPEATS Air3 Deluxe HS earbudsThe SOUNDPEATS Air3 Deluxe HS True wireless earbuds are priced at $50 and come in sole Black color option. The earbuds are available for purchase from SOUNDPEAT’s official website.

Haylou Purfree OW01 Earbuds review

I have a confession: I am obsessed with open-ear earbuds. Open-ear earbuds allow you to listen to music without plugging your ears and completely separating you from the world. There certainly are situations where the coziness of putting on a pair of noise-cancelling headphones is unmatched. But for the office, the gym, and the outdoors, open-ear earbuds are certainly my preferred choice. The Haylou Purfree OW01 Earbuds come to the market with a few distinct style and design features that separate them from other available open-ear earbuds. I couldn’t wait to see the differences they brought to my listening experience.Haylou Purfree OW01 EarbudsThe packaging for the Haylou Purfree OW01 Earbuds is very satisfying. Everything was neat and tidy. The metallic black earbud case with “Haylou” embossed on the front looked very sharp. Opening the earbud case revealed the beaming scarlet interior. The earbuds were shaped as a traditional open-ear earbud. The bright red part of the earbud with the speakers was connected to a long black rubber piece that wrapped around to the back of the ear and ended at a dense, weighted bar that kept the whole assembly in place around the ear. On the pair I opened, I noticed that this rubber piece was not jet black as I had expected, but rather a very dark purple or brown. Such a fine detail didn’t ruffle my feathers too much, but it was something I noticed.Setting up the earbuds and connecting them to my phone was a piece of cake. I may not have even looked at the instruction manual, the process was so intuitive.Sound QualitySound quality is the most important part of an earbud, and open-ear earbuds are especially susceptible to poor sound quality.Putting on the Haylou Purfree OW01 Earbuds for the first time, I first noticed how loud they were. This is definitely atypical for open-ear earbuds, so if you’ve been looking for an open-ear earbud that can blast your tunes, definitely give these a try. In the office at work, where I like my music the quietest, I felt comfortable with my volume on the lowest setting. The sound quality that these earbuds produced was pretty good. I was satisfied but not blown away. Some of the fine audio details were difficult to pick out, but only if I was trying to focus on them. One little audio glitch that I did notice was that about every two hours of use, there would be maybe half a second where the earbuds would be slightly out of sync, and then would come back. However, this didn’t really affect the experience except for maybe being a little bit startling the first time.ComfortThe Haylou Purfree OW01 Earbuds were kind of a one-size-fits-all type deal, with no adjustable pieces. However, the dark rubber portion of the earbud was flexible, and I believe this would allow the earbud to fit comfortably over ears of different shapes. On my ears, there were no issues with comfort. In fact, not having to adjust the earbuds every time I put them on was kind of nice. Without being able to loosen or tighten the earbuds, I was almost certain that they would fall off while running or working out. But, to my surprise, they stayed on just fine! These are likely the most comfortable pair of open-ear earbuds that I’ve worn.Another thing that was great about this pair of earbuds was that the sides of the earbuds had both touch controls, and button controls. I really enjoyed the flexibility of being able to choose how I controlled my music depending on the situation.Battery LifeThere were absolutely no issues with battery life when using the Haylou Purfree OW01 Earbuds. They were charged twice over a week’s worth of twice-a-day use and never died. However, there was no indicator on the case or the earbuds that told how much battery was left. This is something that would have been convenient.OverallUsing the Haylou Purfree OW01 Earbuds was a great experience. The comfort, battery life, and style of the earbuds were very impressive. The only aspect for which they could be improved was sound quality, which was still very passable. These will definitely be my go-to running and workout earbuds for the foreseeable future.

PowerUp 4.0 – Tornado Updraft 12 Balsa Wood Kit review

If you’re in the realm of remote control planes, you have likely heard of the PowerUp 4.0 RC plane kit. The PowerUp 4.0 is a low-cost, easy to use, self-propelled miniature RC plane that provides an opportunity for just about anyone to own and fly one directly from their smartphone, via the PowerUp app and a Bluetooth connection. It encourages creativity by supporting various build kits, such as the well-known origami paper planes–or in this case–balsa wood, with the new Tornado Updraft 12 kit born from a partnership with Nighthawk Gliders. You can buy the whole kit with wings included on the PowerUp website for $120, on sale now for $99. It will come with instructions and all of the materials you will need to construct your new balsa wood toy.The idea is simple. The PowerUp 4.0 itself cannot fly, as it has no wings. It is a simple but elegant and well-engineered design. Up front, a cockpit holds the electronics, and is attached by a thin metal rod to two motorized propellers which will thrust the plane through the air from behind the wings. But here is where the fun comes in – deciding how you are going to produce lift. By itself, the PowerUp 4.0 kit is just the skeleton of a fuselage. It is up to you to decide what kind of design interests you enough to build it. You may opt for paper or balsa wood, among the many available kits, designs, and templates available on their website and in origami books. The Tornado Updraft 12If origami doesn’t quite interest you, this balsa wood template should definitely be considered. It contains a cutout template, instructions, and a few necessary materials for constructing the wings and attaching them to the propulsion system. The required build time for this particular set is only a few hours if you ignore the super glue drying time. For the most part, it is an easy build, but it does require some small details that add some complexities and fun to the process with the intent of improving the quality of flight. Fortunately, the instructions are great, easy to understand, and the kit provides you with lots of useful items like a small cutout designed to help set the correct angle of the wings as well as the horizontal stabilizers at the tail. The experience is overall pretty enjoyable and is great for passing time no matter your age, but I think it’s a particularly great gift for young kids that may be interested in finding a new hobby.I was a bit worried about the durability of the plane, especially since I am fairly new to the hobby in general. A couple of rough crashes proved that the design is actually fairly sturdy and can take quite a few hits. Regardless, the balsa wood frame is so lightweight that some of my roughest landings weren’t catastrophic. Of course, I’d recommend flying over grass in opposition to harder surfaces if possible, but as a beginner pilot, there is no need for too much concern as long as you fly in a safe, open area free of obstacles like trees or powerlines.Flight Experience & FeaturesEven if you’ve never flown an RC plane before, the PowerUp 4.0 app on your smartphone makes it an extremely easy process. It took me just a few crashes before I was able to fly for two or more minutes at a time. I have found that this kit demands a bit more space than you may need for its origami relatives, but it is just as quick to learn. Bluetooth range extends to 240 feet thanks to the antenna in the cockpit, and the easily-replaceable quick charge battery allows for around 10 minutes of non-stop flight time, which is pretty impressive for a rather small device like itself.Unlike the lighter and smaller paper plane kits, this kit won’t take off so easily from a throw. Thankfully, the kit comes with ultra lightweight but surprisingly functional landing gear, so that you can take off and land with about 50 feet of runway space. Empty parking lots and long driveways are therefore essential to the experience, especially if you aren’t quite a pro at the takeoff and landing phase yet.The PowerUp 4.0 smartphone app is truly great at what it does, and makes the flying experience really accessible for anyone who can operate a joystick. There are a couple unique features in there that aren’t necessary for this template in particular, but are definitely nice to have. The plane tracks statistics of your flights like max flight time and simplifies the control of the plane in comparison to many other more advanced RC planes out there. It also adds some additional customizability to your experience.ConclusionThere aren’t many other toys on the market that can make constructing and flying RC planes so affordable and easy. On the PowerUp 4.0, its size and specs make the learning curve extremely forgiving for even some of the most uncoordinated beginners. The entire construction process from start to finish is easy and enjoyable. It makes a great gift for children, but the PowerUp 4.0 Tornado Updraft 12 kit can be fun at any age. In my opinion the price is very reasonable, especially when compared to some of the other hobby kits like it. The app is amazing and makes the whole experience even simpler. Connecting the plane to your mobile device is very quick and smooth, and the connection stays very stable even at long distances that wouldn’t normally be supported by Bluetooth.

Here’s how to unlock Bluetooth on the Stadia controller

There are a couple of things to know about unlocking Bluetooth on the Stadia controller before you begin. Once you use the tool and enable Bluetooth on the Stadia controller, Wi-Fi will no longer work and you’ll be unable to connect to Stadia servers directly with it. As such, you may want to wait until January 19, 2023, when the service will be officially shut down. Besides, since the online tool will be available until December 23, 2023, there’s not much of a reason to rush.Next, the list of compatible devices includes Windows 10 and 11 with Steam, MacOS 13 with Steam, ChromeOS, and Android. Even if you own these platforms it still may not work unless your device has a Bluetooth Low Energy adapter. Also, the controller’s 3.5mm audio jack and USB port will not work for audio when using it wirelessly, but the headphone jack will work when plugged in with the USB Type-C cable. Lastly, the Google Assistant and Capture buttons will cease to function unless you use additional software to remap them. With all of that out of the way, here’s how you can enable Bluetooth on your Stadia controller. Make sure your controller is charged to 10% or more and connect it to your PC with a USB cable. Then, open the website for the online tool using Chrome 108 or higher. From there, you can click the “Switch to Bluetooth mode” button and let Google’s tool do all the work. Afterward, you’ll be able to pair the Stadia controller by holding down the “Y” and Stadia buttons to start the process.Ever since Google launched its cloud gaming platform Stadia back in 2018—originally known as Project Stream when it was in testing—I have been a massive fan of the technology. It truly blew my mind the first time I loaded up a full-blown AAA game in my browser and was able to play with no lag. It worked so well that I was certain I was witnessing the future of gaming. Here we are over four years later and Stadia’s technology is still as impressive as ever, but like many other services from the search giant, this one is slated for the Google graveyard. While plenty of other services have been terminated by Google in the past, Stadia is one of the most heartbreaking. Users of the service, myself included, loved the experience and the technology. However, it appears Google just hasn’t seen the return on investment it was hoping for and has decided to throw in the towel.Fortunately, the company has handled the shutdown in the best possible way for consumers. First, by announcing it far in advance, then by issuing full refunds for all games and hardware, and finally, it released a tool to enable Bluetooth connectivity on the Stadia controller. Without this tool, the Stadia controller would have still functioned wired, but adding Bluetooth connectivity makes it much more useful and will save a lot of e-waste from ending up in landfills.

Oppo Find N2 review: the Z Fold 4 rival we need, but can’t easily buy

The Oppo Find N2 folding smartphone is the desirable Z Fold 4 competitor we want, but unfortunately, it's not easy to buy. Is it worth the effort?

Hands on: Blurams Outdoor Lite 4 Security Camera

There are many options to choose from when selecting a home security system. Blurams is one of the better-known brands in this competitive market and has a wide variety of products to fulfill security needs. I have been using the Outdoor Lite 4 Security Camera for a few weeks and will summarize what I like and dislike about it.Design and FunctionWhile the look of this camera is on par with any other brand’s outdoor camera, I am not particularly impressed with the feel. To put it bluntly, it feels cheaper than other security cameras that I have used in the past. I would venture to bet that one drop on a hard surface would result in a broken piece of equipment. However, I do appreciate that it comes with a long power cord and mounting hardware. The camera is bulky, but that doesn’t bother me due to it being outdoors. The body is built to withstand harsh weather so once again, the size of the camera may make it more durable.Neither the spotlights nor the siren overly impressed me. While they do largely function and respond as I had hoped, they are not as powerful as I had expected. The lights are just sufficient enough to get the job done but were a little underwhelming. The siren would certainly be heard by whomever is in front of the camera; however, I’m not confident that a neighbor or even someone in another room of the home would hear it very well.Camera picture is great, motion and sound notifications respond and I haven’t missed anything that I can tell. While standard on this type of camera, the two-way talk is always nice to have.Mobile AppThe Blurams app has impressed me as it is easy to navigate and displays the camera picture very well. This camera has several options that can be accessed with a Blurams Guard account. Vehicle detection, pet detection, family member detection and package detection are all available with this upgraded account.Operating the camera from the app is very straightforward. With a simple tap on your phone screen, you can activate alarms, lights, two way talk and recording functions. I have zero complaints about notifications. They are as customizable and gave me very few “false alarms” on motion detection, sound detection etc.InstallationThe installation of the camera was very easy and straightforward with simple directions. Setup took less than five minutes once I realized that it was not pairing with my older router. It is important to note that this camera can only operate on a 2.4GHz connection. Anything other than that, such as 5G, is not compatible with this camera.ConclusionI would recommend this camera to anyone who is working with a tight budget and who doesn’t want to be locked into a subscription. The cost for this camera sits around $50 which feels appropriate for a basic security camera. The base function and features are available at no additional cost, making this a very affordable out-of-box solution. Other brands may force you into a subscription for the equipment to be used at all. If you are in the market for a simple and easy to use camera that won’t break the bank, I would feel comfortable recommending the Blurams Outdoor Lite 4.

PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch review

If you own a Nintendo Switch, then at some point, you’re going to want a new controller. Whether it’s due to the small size, the dreaded stick shift, or you’re just tired of removing and attaching the Joy-Con controllers—it’s just good to have a second gamepad around.Fortunately, there is a huge market for Nintendo Switch controllers, and PowerA was nice enough to send its officially licensed Fusion Pro Wireless Controller out for review.DesignThe PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch looks nearly identical to the Switch Pro Controller, but the two gamepads do have some key differences. The largest one is the removable customizable paddle attachment on the back of the Fusion Pro Wireless.Another standout feature is the magnetic replaceable face allowing you to swap between the included white or black faceplates. The joysticks are also swappable, with options for short or tall sticks and concave or convex caps, which are available inside of the included carrying case.On the underside of the controller, PowerA has used a rubberized grip making it quite comfortable to hold in your hands. Finally, the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller offers a 3.5mm headphone jack for using wired headphones with it.User ExperienceSetting up the Fusion Pro Wireless Controller was a frictionless experience. Connecting it to my Nintendo Switch took only seconds and I was ready to play. You can even wake the Nintendo Switch with the home button on the Fusion Pro Wireless, an essential feature for all of us couch jockeys. As for the buttons and joysticks, they all worked perfectly and I had no issues playing any of my games. However, the real game-changer was the Mappable Pro Pack which gives you four paddles on the underside of the controller. Each one of these paddles can be programmed to a button on the controller and allows you to activate the button without taking your thumbs off of the analog sticks.A feature like this can be massively convenient or invaluable depending on the game. This is just one example of many, but while playing Zelda Breath of the Wild, I was able to map the attack, action, and jump buttons to the paddles. That made it so much easier to run around Hyrule slashing and picking up loot without ever needing to take my right thumb off of the analog stick.Speaking of Breath of the Wild, if you’re a fan of gyro aiming, then no worries. The Fusion Pro Wireless Controller includes gyro controls, so you’ll be able to line up your shots and do the shrine puzzles with no issues. For all that the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller does right, I’m afraid there are some drawbacks. The first is no NFC chip, which means no support for Amiibo. I’ve never used the Amiibo function with my Switch before, so that wasn’t a deal breaker for me. However, there are also no vibration motors and I did find I missed the haptic feedback during games. Lastly, while there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, it is only functional when using the controller wired and will not work in wireless mode.None of these are truly essential features, and they may not be dealbreakers for you, especially given how game-changing the customizable paddles are. Regardless, it’s good to know what you’re getting before you spend your hard-earned dollars.Battery LifePowerA rates the Fusion Pro Wireless for up to 20-hours of battery life. After playing with it these past few weeks, I can say that seems about right. The controller even has fantastic standby time in between gaming sessions. Plus, there’s a generously long 10ft. USB Type-A to Type-C cable included that you can use to play wired.Final ThoughtsThe PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch has a lot going for it. The obvious standout feature are the customizable paddle buttons, but it also has a comfortable rubber grip, replaceable faceplates and analog sticks, a premium carrying case, and fantastic battery life. While there are a couple of concessions made with the lack of Amiibo support and haptic feedback, those aren’t deal breakers for many of us. However, the price tag might be. The retail price for the Fusion Pro Wireless is $100, and that’s a steep asking price when the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller sells for $60 with support for Amiibo and HD rumble. In this case, you’ll have to ask yourself how much the customizable paddles along with the replaceable faceplates and analog sticks are worth to you. If that’s worth the additional cost—then you won’t regret picking up the Fusion Pro Wireless—because it’s an incredible controller. I know the mappable paddles changed the way I played games for the better, and it’s now difficult for me to use a controller without them.Alternatively, you can watch for the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller to go on sale because sometimes it can drop as low as $50.Buy from Amazon Buy from PowerA
