The Brave and the Bold’s writer has seemingly been named — and Batman fans aren’t pleased with who’s been picked to pen the DCU movie

  • The Brave and the Bold‘s writer has reportedly been revealed
  • They wrote the scripts for Birds of Prey and The Flash
  • DCU co-CEO James Gunn is yet to comment on the DCU Batman movie rumor

The Brave and the Bold writer’s identity has reportedly been revealed – and DC fans are voicing their displeasure over the hire.

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, the DC Universe’s (DCU) Batman movie will be penned by Christina Hodson. The Hollywood scribe is best known for writing the scripts for Birds of Prey and The Flash, aka two films set in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Ordinarily, I’d caution against believing what you read on the internet. That’s particularly true of rumors that come from people like Sneider, who’s believed to have good contacts within the industry, but whose track record with leaks is mixed at best.

On this occasion, though, another industry insider, who goes by the moniker Apocalyptic Horseman on X/Twitter, has said Hodson is penning the script for the DCU’s Batman flick. Apocalyptic Horseman is far more reliable when it comes to scoops and other industry gossip, so there appears to be some credence to this rumor.

The revelation about Hodson’s involvement comes a few days after DCU co-chief James Gunn provided a small update on The Brave and the Bold‘s development.

Responding to one fan during a Q&A session on Threads, Gunn implied that, while work was ongoing on the DCU Chapter One film, it could be a long time before it’s released in theaters. That’s because, from a Batman project perspective, DC Studios’ current priority is to film The Batman Part II and ensure it’ll meet its October 2, 2027 launch date.

That movie, which exists independently of the DCU, is the sequel to the 2022 Robert Pattinson-starring film The Batman and is due to start shooting sometime in early 2026. With Gunn also saying there won’t be movement on TB&TB until an “actionable script” is ready, it’s going to be a long time before The Dark Knight officially makes his DCU debut.

How have DC Comics fans reacted to Christina Hodson’s hiring?

Not well. Indeed, a thread on the DC Cinematic Reddit page is full of opinions ranging from general bemusement to downright frustration. Similar sentiments have been expressed on other social media platforms, including X/Twitter.

In the grand scheme of things, though these opinions are held by a fraction – albeit a very vocal one – of the global DC Comics fanbase. So, while they give us an insight into what people are making of Hodson’s involvement, it’s impossible to determine if the majority of people hold a similar view.

It’s not all bad news for some, though. As others have pointed out, Hodson was the head writer for Bumblebee, which is widely considered to be one of the better Transformers movies around. Meanwhile, in the aforementioned Reddit thread, some observers highlighted a scene from The Flash, one involving Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, and argued that it shows Hodson has a “great understanding” of the iconic character and his crimefighting alter-ego.

For what it’s worth, Gunn is yet to confirm or deny – at the time of publication, anyway – that Hodson is penning TB&TB‘s screenplay.

If Hodson’s involvement is announced in due course, it’ll mark the first major update we’ve received about the DCU’s Batman film for months. Indeed, aside from Gunn’s replies to fans on Threads, June 2025 was the last time he discussed its development, with the DC Studios co-CEO saying “I think I have a way in” with The Brave and the Bold‘s story.
