Gunther earned the right to face the man who brought us the “Attitude Adjustment” and “Five Moves of Doom” on his swansong by winning the Last Time Is Now Tournament, defeating Je’Von Evans, Carmelo Hayes, Solo Sikoa and LA Knight. The former two-time world heavyweight champion, incidentally, sent Goldberg into retirement in July.
As tends to be the case, the fairytale ending wasn’t to be for Goldberg, though at 48, Cena is 10 years his junior, a recent intercontinental champion, a 17-time world champion and a Triple Crown winner. He’s also one of the most iconic WWE superstars of all time, arguably the promotion’s biggest ever asset, and has repeatedly stressed that there won’t be a comeback – this really is the last dance.
