Adobe Photoshop is now built into ChatGPT for free – and you don’t need graphic design skills to use it

  • Adobe Photoshop, Express, and Acrobat are now apps inside ChatGPT and are free for everyone to use
  • The apps come with sliders and controls inside ChatGPT that let you adjust effects and colors
  • You can open your creations directly in the web versions of the apps

Adobe has launched its most popular creativity and productivity apps inside ChatGPT, and yes, that includes Adobe Photoshop. The premier graphic design tool is now an app inside ChatGPT alongside Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Express, and they are all free.

Best of all, you do not need to understand how any of these apps work. Inside ChatGPT, you simply describe what you want using natural language, and the apps do it for you. Instead of generating a single static image or document, the apps give you control sliders and options right inside ChatGPT so you can tweak and adjust the results until you get exactly what you want.

Photoshop is well known for editing images, while Adobe Express is built for fast document creation with templates that let you spin up a party invitation or an invoice in seconds. Finally, Acrobat is its PDF manager and editor.

What is it like to Photoshop in ChatGPT?

We watched a demo of Photoshop running as an app inside the web version of ChatGPT, and it is impressive. Here’s how it works:

First, you drag an image into the ChatGPT prompt bar to upload it. You can then ask ChatGPT to perform an edit in Photoshop, such as “Convert this image to black and white using Photoshop.” There is no need to know how to use Photoshop at all.

After a brief moment, ChatGPT shows you the image converted to black and white using Photoshop and presents an Intensity slider so you can control the strength of the effect.

But you can keep going. If you type “Adjust the exposure on the image,” ChatGPT will again think for a moment and then display Photoshop’s exposure sliders so you can fine-tune the result.

You do not even need to know what tools you want. For example, you can upload another image and type “Add some effects to the image,” and ChatGPT will show previews of five different Photoshop effects, including Tritone, Halftone Color, Glitch, and Dither. Pick one, and you will get sliders to adjust the look.

Photoshop-level selections can also be controlled with natural language. You can type “Apply a Halftone Color effect to the image everywhere except her hair,” and ChatGPT will handle the masking automatically.

Each creation includes an “Open in Photoshop” button that launches the file in Photoshop on the web.

If you need something like a party invitation, Adobe Express can be used inside ChatGPT, too. You can ask ChatGPT to come up with holiday party invitation ideas, pick one you like, and say, “Use Adobe Express to create this theme.”

You can then edit the invitation using natural language. If you ask it to change the background color, it will do that and also give you a set of color options with on-screen controls.

Adobe Acrobat in use

Acrobat, Adobe’s PDF editor, works just like the other apps. You can use natural language to perform tasks without opening the standalone program. Upload your resume, cover letter, and references, then ask it to merge them into one PDF using Acrobat, and you will get a unified document.

It takes a few moments to complete, but once it is done, you can even make last-minute edits to the PDF directly inside ChatGPT without switching to the full Acrobat interface.

Adobe’s arrival inside ChatGPT is a significant milestone. It pushes OpenAI’s chatbot into new territory, expanding what is possible and moving it beyond content generation into real editing, design, and document workflows. If this is only the beginning, it is not hard to imagine a future where ChatGPT becomes the place where ideas are not just created but completed without ever leaving the chatbot.
