The Garmin Forerunner 265 helped me fall in love with marathon running, and right now it’s cheaper than ever

The Garmin Forerunner 265 was the watch I used to run my first marathon, and I found it terrific. The watch helped me stay on pace every step of the way, and it opened my eyes to what Garmin watches were really capable of. It’s a terrific piece of kit.

It’s also heavily discounted in the Black Friday deals in both the US and UK. In the US, the Garmin Forerunner 265 has dropped from $449 to just $229 at Amazon, a huge $150 saving on both sizes and its lowest price ever.

In the UK, the Garmin Forerunner 265 has dropped from £379.99 to £299.99 at John Lewis. It’s not as big a saving as $150, but an £80 discount is not to be sniffed.

This is genuinely a top-tier fitness watch for runners. It’s got stacks of features, a bright AMOLED screen, and up to 15 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. Check out the deals in full below.

Today’s best Garmin Forerunner 265 Black Friday deals

US deal: Save $150 on the price of the Forerunner 265, an AMOLED training watch that offers stacks of running-specific features, including virtual pacing, customized training plans, and accurate multi-band GPS. LiveTrack allows loved ones to keep tabs on your location and send messages mid-run. Both sizes are available in three colors. View Deal

UK deal: Save £80 on the Garmin Forerunner 265 here. Like the deal above, both sizes (the 265 and the smaller 42mm 265s) and different colors are available. It’s perfect for runners who’ve graduated from cheap fitness trackers and are looking for a feature-packed running watch to take them through the next leg of their fitness journey. View Deal

I ran the UK’s Brighton marathon with this watch, and it kept me on pace with its virtual pacer feature. I also got encouraging messages through from my wife at key stages of the race via the LiveTrack feature, as the watch was broadcasting my location to her.

It’s a terrific piece of kit. The accompanying Garmin Connect app can help you design training plans and running routes, which you can then load onto your watch. Wearing it overnight gives you a Training Readiness score, a mixture of the previous few days of activity and your sleep quality to tell you whether you’re sufficiently recovered.

It’s a great buy. However, if you’re not convinced, I’ve also included two deals on the Garmin Epix Pro, a slightly older super-premium watch that’s now going for around half price on both sides of the pond. I used this one on my second marathon.

US deal: Save a massive $500 in this early Black Friday deal on the 47mm Garmin Epix Pro Sapphire edition. With an updated Elevate V5 heart rate sensor, multi-band GPS, and an LED flashlight, it’s the blueprint for a modern Garmin watch: fast, accurate, and built like a tank. It’s got 32GB storage for music and GPX maps. View Deal

UK deal: A better-than-half-price deal on the Garmin Epix Pro Sapphire in its 47mm size and Whitestone colorway. This was the size I used to run the London Marathon, and I found it perfect as a man of average build. Its advanced running features were instrumental in helping me cross the line. View Deal
