Sony’s fantastic WH-1000XM6 headphones just got their first-ever UK price cut – beat the Black Friday rush

In a welcome move, Amazon has offered a Black Friday discount on Sony’s range-topping WH-1000XM6 headphones – the first time Amazon has discounted them in the UK. The WH-1000XM6 are currently down from £399 to £349, saving you £50.

This deal stands out among the wider Black Friday deals because it’s on a very recently launched pair of headphones, and we haven’t really seen any discounts on them yet – the deals usually focus on older models. The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones only arrived this summer, so we’re happy to see a decent discount on them so soon.

Today’s best Sony WH-1000XM6 Black Friday deal

These are the very latest version of Sony’s range-topping ANC over-ears, and in our Sony WH-1000XM6 review we said that they offer class-leading noise cancellation, excellent audio performance and highly intuitive touch controls – and unlike their immediate predecessors they’re also foldable. One thing we didn’t like was their higher price, but this discount makes them much more affordable. These are as good as noise-cancelling headphones get.View Deal

The Sony WH-1000XM6 are at the top of our guide to the best headphones, and they’re there for very good reasons: their active noise cancellation (ANC) is exceptional, their sound quality is impeccable and they’re very comfortable.

These are the most advanced ANC over-ears that Sony has ever made, and we think they combine the best of the XM4 and XM5’s design with upgraded features and audio performance. Sony promised that they would deliver “improvements in every single way” and we think they delivered on that promise.

What really makes these headphones stand out is their ANC. It’s powered by a new processor and uses 12 dedicated microphones to deliver astonishingly effective noise cancellation, and it’s up there with – and some argue it’s better than – the very best from Bose.

Battery life is a reasonable 30 hours with that advanced ANC running, and a quick three-minute charge from flat gives you three hours of listening. Sound quality is impressive for both music and speech, and they’re very comfortable too.

Our only real issue was the recommended retail price of £399, which made these rather pricey. At £349 we’re much happier, and you will be too if you buy a pair – though there are some other Sony deals worth noting today if you’d rather spend a little less!

If you’re looking for a set of well-made noise-cancelling over-ear headphones on a budget, this is a great deal: you’re getting £30 off the RRP. As we said in our Sony WH-CH720N review, you’re getting a lot of audio finesse and smart features for the price. These mid-range over-ears are comfortable, enjoyable to listen to, and do a decent job of blocking outside sounds.View Deal

The Sony WH-1000XM4 have been around for a while now, but they’re so good that they continued to top our best headphones guide long after their successors had launched. In our five-star Sony WH-1000XM4 review we wondered if they were the best headphones ever made – and we’ve compared the XM4s to both the XM5 and XM6 and still found them to be great buys. Their noise cancellation is practically as good as the XM5’s, they sound good, and they’re super-comfy too.View Deal

If you’ve been eyeing up the Sony WH-1000XM5 but have been put off by the admittedly high price tag (I’ve listed their original RRP, although they’ve been hovering around £259 for a little while), now is probably the time to act. These premium headphones have just dropped below £200 and for that money, they’re an excellent buy – our Sony WH-1000XM5 review is the place to go for that. The Sony WH-1000XM6 might be out now, but they cost twice as much – the XM6 are a clear upgrade, but a lot of people will prefer to keep the £200 in their pocket. This version of the Sony XM5 comes with a soft bag case instead of a hard case, saving you a little extra.View Deal

US Sony Black Friday deals

If you’re looking for a superb set of noise-cancelling over-ears but don’t want to pay a lot of cash, this deal on the excellent WH-CH720N headphones is superb: you’re getting nearly 50% off the MSRP. As we said in our WH-CH720N review, you’re getting a lot of audio finesse and smart features for the price. These mid-range over-ears are comfortable, enjoyable and deliver solid noise-blocking too.View Deal

These headphones may have been superseded by the excellent XM6, but if you’ve been eyeing up the Sony WH-1000XM5 but didn’t like their fairly high price tag – I’ve listed their original MSRP, although they’ve been hovering just below $340 several times this year – then today is a good day to buy. These premium headphones have just dropped below $250, and this is the lowest they’ve ever been – and at that price they’re an excellent buy. Check out our full Sony WH-1000XM5 review to get all the details. I like these headphones a lot: they deliver very good active noise cancellation, superior comfort, and Sony sound quality. They’d make a good gift for somebody special, and that somebody could be you.View Deal
