Scotland face Denmark in a straight shootout for World Cup qualification tonight, one that’s only come about because both teams are creaking under the weight of expectation. A draw would be good enough for Brian Riemer’s men, as they’re a point better-off than their opponents at the top of Group C, which puts the onus firmly on Scotland. Even between frantic dashes to and from Hampden Park’s facilities, it isn’t difficult to imagine Hojlund giving John Souttar and Grant Hanley the runaround, while strikers Che Adams and Lyndon Dykes have made an art-form out of squandering chances.
However, with Billy Gilmour still out with an adductor injury, and therefore unable to shield Souttar and Hanley, Clarke has switched out the latter for Scott McKenna. Mikkel Damsgaard will carve out opportunities for Denmark. Will Scotland be solid enough at the back to allow Scott McTominay to bomb on in support of Ryan Christie and John McGinn?
