My ultimate Mac mini M4 accessories guide – 9 must-have add-ons for your mini

The Apple Mac mini M4 is one of the biggest bargains in computing, offering a huge amount of power for not much cash. But you can’t use it on its own – which means you need to kit it out with peripherals and accessories.

That’s where I can help. I bought a Mac mini M4 earlier this year, and spent a stupid amount of time researching the options before adding a 27in 4K monitor from MSI. I run it at 2560×1440, which gives me plenty of desktop space but without a visible loss of detail; at full 4K, icons are too small, but at 1080p the desktop is too cramped You’ll need a cable to connect them, too, so I’ve included a cheap but (so far) reliable USB-C-to-USB-C option that can handle the task.

I also added an Apple Magic keyboard and Apple Magic trackpad. These were no-brainers because they’re simply excellent and both were available via Amazon Renewed for a good price (and still are below). A mouse more your thing? Apple’s Magic Mouse is also an option.

My biggest project was that I upgraded the Mac mini M4 with 4TB of extra storage – but without paying Apple’s premium prices. I paired the OWC Express 1M2 SSD enclosure with a fast Samsung NVME SSD for quadruple the storage but no loss of speed.

Finally, I added a Satechi Hub and Stand dock. This adds an essential (for me) SD card slot, among other ports, plus the chance for yet more storage (another 1TB for me). As a bonus, it also makes it easier to reach the mini’s awkwardly placed power button.
