IKEA reveals 6 colorful new Bluetooth speakers and lamps to brighten up your mood and home

  • IKEA has six distinctive new products for your smart home
  • They’ve been made in partnership with Swedish designer Teklan
  • There are three speakers, two speaker-lamps, and a lamp

IKEA has some new smart home devices to show off, made in partnership with Teklan (Swedish designer Tekla Evelina Severin): we’ve got three contenders for our best Bluetooth speakers list, and three lamps – two with built-in speakers.

All of these gadgets feature bold patterns and colors, which is something that Teklan is known for. They’re quite distinctive in their look, and IKEA says the lineup “puts expression first” and is designed to “connect technology with personal style”.

The three Bluetooth speakers are part of the SOLSKYDD family of products, and come in three sizes: a small, 8-inch portable orange model ($79.99), a medium 11-inch green, brown, and beige model ($99.99), and a large 18-inch orange model ($139.99) that can be paired with a screen. The first image in the gallery below shows how the different sizes compare.

The biggest one is for wall mounting, but the other two can be wall mounted or put on a stand. IKEA hasn’t revealed international pricing yet, but we’ll update this story when we get it.

All these speakers can connect with each other, as well as existing IKEA Bluetooth speakers, if you want a multi-speaker setup. They support Spotify Tap too, so you can resume your music listening with one button press.

New lamps too

Then we’ve got the two speaker lamps, called KULGLASS. These are probably my favorite products of the new batch, doing double duty as both a source of illumination and something to pump your tunes (or podcasts or audiobooks) out of.

The swirl-shaped shades are apparently inspired by soft-serve ice cream – another reason I like them – and you can choose from a black model with a light green shade or a red model with a pink-ish shade.

Finally, for now, there’s a “spotted interpretation” of the existing FADO lamp, which IKEA says is designed to spread a soft glow around whatever room you put it in. The light shines through a cream and brown covering, and it has a vaguely futuristic vibe – whereas the current FADO lamp just has a simple white covering.

IKEA says all of these products are going on sale in December, and we’ll add that international pricing to this story as soon as we get it.
