While Steam is known for having some planned maintenance, it appears that the gaming platform and storefront are failing to load entirely or are operating very slowly. We’ve seen posts from impacted users on X (formerly Twitter) and Threads, as well as two sites that track the platform’s uptime.
Steamstat.us, which is an unofficial status tracker for Steam, is showing the ‘Steam Store’ as unavailable entirely and that the ‘Steam Web API’ is offline. Currently, I’m based in New York City, and while I can currently load into Steam’s site in Safari or Chrome, I was unable to about 10 minutes ago.
So, to track the latest with Steam and to try and see when this might be resolved, TechRadar is spinning up a live blog, and we’re reaching out to the company to ask if they have an ETA of when this might be resolved, and what’s causing it.
Here’s a look at Steamstats as of us getting this live blog up and running at 1:10PM ET.
It appears that Steam is starting to recover, as of 1:25 PM ET, Steamstats.us is showing that ‘Steam Store’, ‘Steam Community’, ‘Steam Web API’, and ‘Steam Connection Managers’ are now back to normal.
Though there have been over 1,700,000 page views to this status checker in the past hour, this does indicate some issues with the platform.
I’ve just tried loading the main Steam webpage again, and although it loads, it’s clear that some elements aren’t appearing. Primarily, the main slider, which showcases titles centered on the homepage, appears empty, and the site itself isn’t fully loaded.
While reported outages for Steam spiked to over 40,000 earlier today on Down Detector, the chart currently shows that the service is recovering. As of 1:19 PM ET, reported outages are at 3,591.
While statuses for various parts of Steam have been fluctuating since about 12 PM ET, all of the Steam Services are listed as normal as of 1:40 PM ET on SteamStats.us.
Visits to this unofficial Steam status page have also dropped, from over 1,700,000 to 1,308,000, which likely indicates that the service is starting to recover.
