IKEA now sells solar panels – and you don’t have to assemble them yourself

  • IKEA’s home energy solution just launched in the UK
  • You can now get solar panels, EV chargers, and heat pumps through IKEA
  • It’s working with third parties to provide these services

If you love IKEA’s smart home tech, then you’re in for a real treat: the company just launched its lineup of renewable energy solutions in the UK, which includes solar panels, heat pumps, and EV chargers.

Through the IKEA website, you can request a free quote for these services from either Soly or Aira, based on your interests, and find out how much installing solar panels, a heat pump, a solar battery, or EV charging would cost for your home.

If you want to proceed, unlike your IKEA furniture, this gear is professionally installed (with installation included in the price you’re quoted) and is also backed by a guarantee (the precise range depends on what you have installed, but the shortest we saw was 10 years).

Based on what you’re getting installed and if you meet certain criteria, you might even be able to benefit from government grants, which the websites for the services highlight as you explore the options IKEA’s providing.

This collaboration doesn’t seem like the sort of thing IKEA would normally offer, but it has partnered with third parties on appliances before – such as Sonos for its now-discontinued Symfonisk speakers. Although this specific collaboration might be new to the UK, it isn’t new to IKEA.

This is just a continuation of a scheme IKEA first piloted in Germany (via T3) earlier this year, and as is usual, it has now expanded to include the UK and will hopefully expand further to include other regions IKEA operates.

These gadgets can seriously help cut your energy bills and reliance on fossil fuels, so it’s neat that IKEA is starting to offer these services – especially through partnerships with businesses that have a track record in these fields, rather than asking us to trust a complete newcomer.

If things continue to go well for IKEA we may even see it expand its energy solution options in the future, perhaps even until we reach the point where your entire home has been assembled by IKEA – not just your furniture.
