The answers to today’s Strands, game #571, are…

  • HERALD
  • MESSENGER
  • ARCHANGEL
  • GUARDIAN
  • SERAPH
  • SPANGRAM: HEAVENSENT
  • My rating: Hard
  • My score: 1 hint

After collecting six non-game words and having no clue about what the concept might be based on today’s theme clue, I needed a hint to get me started – but even with that I made very slow progress.

It was only when I said the words “hark the herald angels sing” to myself that I finally realized what this particular search was all about.

Adding to the list of clever spangrams, today’s effort sat at the top of the board like a halo. SERAPH was a new word for me and fortunately it was my last – and one I tapped out without knowing its ranking in the angelic hierarchy.

Yesterday’s NYT Strands answers (Wednesday, September 24, game #570)

  • GAPE
  • GRIN
  • SCOWL
  • POUT
  • SMILE
  • SNEER
  • FROWN
  • SMIRK
  • SPANGRAM: EXPRESSIONS
