Share

Android gaming is getting bigger and better every month, it seems, and there is always a slew of new titles coming to Google Play. Whether you’re a casual gamer or you want something with a bit more meat on its bones, there’s usually a game coming out to suit everyone’s taste. Some months are better than others, but there is usually at least one great new game on mobile every month. Let’s take a look at the best new Android games from the last month! You can also check out our picks for the best new Android games released in all of 2021.

An honorable mention for this month is Ni No Kuni: Cross World (Google Play). The gameplay is reasonably decent. However, some unfortunate decisions with in-game crypto caused bot spam to the point where legit players are stuck in queues instead of playing. Keep an eye on it, but wait until things get sorted out.

Alice Fiction

Price: Free to play

Alice Fiction is an anime-themed RPG with some match-three mechanics. It plays like most other mobile RPGs in this genre. There is a campaign to follow with a relatively decent story. The game ups the ante with a decent soundtrack, above-average graphics, and decent combat mechanics. In combat, you match three shapes to deal damage to the bad guys, and it’s about as simple as that. The gacha mechanics and the grind can be somewhat intrusive, but it’s nothing too serious.

Among Gods is another mobile RPG with gacha mechanics. This one is pretty typical. You gather a team, upgrade them as you play, and make your way through the story. The game also has a roster of 100 characters, a PvP mode, and some other stuff. The PvP isn’t anything special and indicative of your standard gacha game. What makes the game interesting is its story and its selection of heroes. Of course, the near-endless grind is present, so you’ll always have something to do.

Kinja Run

Kinja Run is a runner game. You’ll be familiar with the mechanics. You run while battling enemies and avoiding obstacles. There is also a combat mechanic where you shoot enemies in front of you with various weapons. There are also bullet hell (shoot ’em up) mechanics as enemies fire back. It’s actually more reminiscent of a top-down shooter, but we like the overall premise. It’s a fun game.

Octopath Traveler: CotC is a new mobile gacha from Square Enix. It takes place in the same world as Octopath Traveler on the Nintendo Switch and has a similar premise. Characters each have their own story, and you play through them. The game features similar graphics, the same soundtrack, and similar battle mechanics to the original game. That’s good news because the original game did all of those things exceptionally well. As a gacha, it’s pretty good, and Square Enix optimized the game well before its release.

TerraGenesis: Landfall

TerraGenesis: Landfall is a city-building simulator where you terraform Mars and other planets. The goal is to create a new society in space and help the new colony thrive. In addition to the main premise, there are also events to play through, places to explore, and more. The mechanics work very well and you shouldn’t have any trouble getting into the game. There are some launch bugs, which is what’s causing the Google Play rating to sink a little bit. The developer is working on it, though, so everything should be fine sooner or later.

That’s A Cow is a platformer where you play a cow. You move through each level by spraying milk out of your utters. The milk launches you in whatever direction your utters face, so you can also use it to move backward, upward, and forward. The mechanic also pushes obstacles and enemies out of your path. Each level has a three-star rating that you can get by completing the level quickly, taking out bad guys, and collecting enough coins. It’s a family-friendly arcade game with goofy but otherwise solid mechanics.

Total War: Medieval II is the latest mobile re-release of the popular Total War series. It’s a strategy game where you pick a faction, build an army, and conquer your foes. This one takes place in Medieval times, just in case the name didn’t tip you off. You build up your empire and use diplomacy, war, and trade agreements to make yourself wealthy and powerful. It’s an excellent overall strategy game. Plus, it has an upfront cost with no additional in-app purchases or ads to get in your way.

Tower of Fantasy is a new MMORPG that got popular quickly. This one uses a space aesthetic instead of a fantasy aesthetic like most MMORPGs. You roam around the open world while befriending or fighting various aliens. There is a story and, as usual, an endless stream of side quests to play through. There is a gacha element along with some flying mechanics that have caused it to be compared to games like Genshin Impact. The premise, mechanics, and story are solid. However, the game is suffering from quite a few bugs. Many of them should end up fixed over time, but it’s just something to be aware of.

UFO99 is another arcade-style game where you fly around and fight bad guys. There are dozens of cute little UFOs that you can unlock mostly through gameplay. You also get power-ups, local multiplayer, cooperative play, and more. Each game is pretty short, so you can play it while on the toilet or waiting in line for something. It’s also fairly family-friendly so you can get your kids in on a co-op game and entertain them for a little while.

Wolf Game: The Wild Kingdom

Price: Free to play

Wolf Game: The Wild Kingdom is a strategy game with a city-building element. However, instead of raising a village and creating armies, you play with animals as you hunt down other animals for food. You lead your wolfpack against bigger creatures to take them down, form alliances with other players, explore the wilderness, and build yourself a little wolf kingdom. The graphics aren’t the best, and the gameplay isn’t anything new. However, the animal-centric premise is at least something a little bit different. Other than some early release bugs, the game otherwise plays well.
