We break down which phones will get Android 12 by manufacturer, and when.

android-12-beta-5-widgets.jpg

We’re in the thick of Android 12 update season. Most OEMs have launched a stable build on their 2021 flagships, and are moving on to betas for their older premium phones. Despite Pixel phones’ seemingly never-ending Android 12 beta lasting through late October, most OEMs appear to have their respective Android 12 skins running on time.

Samsung is on a ridiculous update tear: over two dozen Samsung phones have either received the One UI 4 update worldwide or are in the midst of a rollout. Unless you’re using an old budget Samsung phone, you’re likely to receive the final update soon depending on where you live.

On the reverse side of things, LG has yet to break its silence on its promise to update eight phones to Android 12. Motorola’s update schedule won’t begin until February. Nokia has at least updated a couple of its phones to 12, but has yet to release a full roadmap. It’s likely these brands will still be updating well into mid-to-late 2022.

You’re here to read which of the best Android phones will get Android 12, and when it’s likely to happen. Thankfully, most brands have released their roadmaps for the year. We don’t know yet if these brands will live up to those maps, and your update schedule will differ based on where you live. But we have general estimates to help you out.

For those Android users asking, “When will my phone get Android 12?”, here’s everything we know so far.

When will my ASUS phone get Android 12?

asus-zf8-3.jpg

The ASUS Android 12 release date schedule will be easy to remember, as the company is only updating a handful of phones to the new OS. Of the list, only the Asus Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip received Android 12 right in the closing days of 2021.

If you own an ASUS gaming phone like the ROG Phone 5, expect the update in the first three months of 2022. Otherwise, ASUS promises that all Android 12 updates should appear within the first half of 2022.

Here is the list of when your ASUS phone will receive Android 12:

  • Zenfone 8 / Zenfone 8 Flip (Late 2021)
  • ROG Phone 5 / ROG Phone 5 Ultimate / ROG Phone 5s / ROG Phone 5s Pro (Q1 2022)
  • Zenfone 7 / Zenfone 7 Pro (Q2 2022)
  • ROG Phone 3 / ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition (Q2 2022)

ASUS’ Android 12 update “revamped” a ton of core ASUS apps, added the privacy dashboard, and other core Android 12 privacy features like approximate location, new widget designs, and an updated UI design. The update also apparently removed SIP calling support and made some 3rd-party apps incompatible.

When will my Google Pixel phone get Android 12?

google-pixel-6-widgets-material-you-red.

Unless you have a Pixel 1 or Pixel 2, your Pixel phone is currently eligible to download Android 12.

If you own a Pixel 6, 5, 4, or 3 and are still running Android 11, check your Settings for an update now. You can expect some small updates when Android 12L arrives in early 2022, but that update is more focused on foldables and tablets. So it won’t affect your smartphone experience much.

Here is the list of phones that should be updated to Android 12 already:

  • Pixel 3
  • Pixel 3 XL
  • Pixel 3a
  • Pixel 3a XL
  • Pixel 4
  • Pixel 4 XL
  • Pixel 4a
  • Pixel 4a 5G
  • Pixel 5
  • Pixel 5a
  • Pixel 6

When will my LG phone get Android 12?

lg-wing-review-3.jpg

Despite its plans to exit the smartphone market, LG promised in April 2021 to update certain LG phones to Android 12. These are the eight LG phones that it claimed will jump to Android 12 (we’ve marked which of the two will also update to Android 13):

  • LG Wing (+ Android 13)
  • LG Velvet (+ Android 13)
  • LG V50S
  • LG V50
  • LG G8
  • LG Q31
  • LG Q52
  • LG Q92

While we appreciate that LG isn’t abandoning its loyal customers while fleeing the smartphone industry, there’s still reason for concern. It’s now January, and LG hasn’t given us a roadmap for when its phones will receive the update, nor has it even started a public beta on its phones. Given most other OEMs have started theirs already, the radio silence is getting worrisome.

Before LG’s decision, it struggled to release timely updates for its phones. Now that its executives pulled the plug on the business, will it really have the resources to release updates in a timely manner? One Android Central editor even argued that we shouldn’t believe LG when it promises three years of software updates.

Assuming we see LG Android 12 updates anytime soon, we expect that the LG Wing, LG Velvet, and LG V50 will receive them first.

When will my Motorola phone get Android 12?

motorola-edge-2021-hands-on-personalizat

Motorola doesn’t like updating its phones. As a result, most of them only get one platform update, meaning that Android 10 phones released in 2020 and early 2021 won’t get Android 12. Its only 2020 phones to receive it will be its Razr phones; and those who bought recent phones like the Moto G Power (2021) are totally out of luck.

Wondering which Motorola phones will receive Android 12? Motorola released its update roadmap with the full list — about 25 in all. We also know it will begin rolling out the update in February 2022. Here is the full Motorola Android 12 update list:

  • razr 5G / razr 2020
  • motorola edge 20 / edge 20 pro / edge 20 lite / edge 20 fusion
  • motorola edge (2021) / edge 5G UW / edge+
  • motorola one 5G ace / one 5G UW ace
  • moto g200 5G
  • moto g71 5G
  • moto g51 5G
  • moto g41
  • moto g31
  • moto g100
  • moto g60s
  • moto g60
  • moto g50 / moto g50 5G
  • moto g40 fusion
  • moto g30
  • moto g power (2022)
  • moto g pure
  • moto g stylus 5G

It’ll also update five business-edition phones to 12: the moto g pro, motorola edge (2021), motorola edge 20, motorola edge 20 lite, and motorola edge 20 fusion. Plus, the upcoming Motorola Edge X30 will receive it out of the box.

What we don’t know yet is when Motorola will update any of these phones to Android 12, apart from the fact that it’ll begin in February. We can assume more expensive models like the motorola edge (2021) and motorola edge+ could be first in line, while newer budget models like the moto g power (2022) may take longer.

When will my Nokia phone get Android 12?

nokia-xr20-review-1.jpg

Nokia smartphones once offered some of the fastest software updates outside of Pixel phones. Yet, Nokia missed most of its deadlines for its Android 11 update schedule, and has yet to release an Android 12 roadmap as of early December. Worst of all, it failed to deliver the promised Android 11 update to its Nokia 9 Pureview flagship.

Thankfully, Nokia’s Android 12 release schedule has started out a bit more promisingly. As of early January, the Nokia X20, X10, and G50 have all begun to receive Android 12. And Nokia Power User noted in early December that HMD was testing Android 12 on the Nokia XR20, Nokia 8.3 5G, and G50. So we can expect the other two to receive a stable rollout next.

We still don’t have an official Nokia Android 12 release list, but since its phones typically receive at least two updates, these Nokia phones are likely to get an Android 12 update:

  • Nokia XR20
  • Nokia X20
  • Nokia X100
  • Nokia X10
  • Nokia G300
  • Nokia G50
  • Nokia G20
  • Nokia G10
  • Nokia 8.3 5G
  • Nokia 8 V 5G UW
  • Nokia 5.4
  • Nokia 5.3
  • Nokia 1.3
  • Nokia 2.4
  • Nokia 3.4

We don’t know when the remaining phones will receive it as of yet, but it’s safe to assume the recent X and G phones will be top of the list, while the older numbered phones (aside from the 8.3 5G) will take a bit longer. Nokia didn’t release Android 11 on many of its older phones until the summer, so that could happen again here.

Nokia also recently announced its 2022 smartphone lineup, with four new phones arriving in the first half of the year. All of them should have Android 12 at launch.

When will my OnePlus phone get Android 12?

oneplus-9r-40.jpg

Wondering when your OnePlus phone will get Android 12? The stable build arrived on the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro in early December, was briefly suspended due to major bugs, then pushed again in mid-December with fixes. By now, it should be available worldwide.

Otherwise, other OnePlus phones won’t receive the stable build until later in 2022. It began the closed beta on the OnePlus 8 in mid-November, while other phones are yet to receive it. We expect the update order after the 8 series to be the OnePlus 9R, 8T, Nord 2, Nord CE, Nord, and 7T/7 series.

The OnePlus Android 12 update list consists of the following phones:

  • OnePlus 7
  • OnePlus 7 Pro / 7 Pro 5G
  • OnePlus 7T
  • OnePlus 7T Pro / 7T Pro McLaren
  • OnePlus 7T
  • OnePlus 8
  • OnePlus 8 Pro
  • OnePlus 8T
  • OnePlus 9
  • OnePlus 9 Pro
  • OnePlus 9R
  • OnePlus Nord
  • OnePlus Nord CE
  • OnePlus Nord 2
  • OnePlus Nord N200

OxygenOS 12 has proven to be a controversial update, given that the latest software has merged with ColorOS and lost much of what made OnePlus phones distinct. So you may or may not be in a rush to receive it. Starting with the OnePlus 10, OnePlus phones will run ColorOS exclusively, so this is your last OxygenOS update.

When will my OPPO phone get Android 12?

oppo-find-x3-pro-review-7.jpg

OPPO has made a concerted effort to bring more of its phones to Western markets, building on its popularity in Asia. At present, most Find X3 Pro owners worldwide should have access to ColorOS 12, though the rollout is still ongoing.

In most eligible Asian territories, OPPO has already released ColorOS 12 based on Android 12 on the Find X3 series, Find X2 series, and Reno 6 series. And throughout January, it’ll also come to the Reno 5 series, F19 Pro+, and A73 5G.

As for the West European Union, the most recent OPPO roadmap update indicates that the Find X3 Pro update rollout is still ongoing in most countries, while it should next come to the Find X3 Neo and A73 5G in January.

Meanwhile, OPPO is hard at work pushing the Android 12 beta out to older phones. You can see the current OPPO Android 12 beta schedule, courtesy of the official ColorOS twitter:

Reportedly, OPPO plans to bring the update to over a hundred phones, including every 2021 and 2020 phone and most 2019 phones. The expected OPPO Android 12 update list is below:

  • Find X3 / Find X3 Pro / Find X3 Neo / Find X3 Lite
  • Find X2 / Find X2 Pro / Find X2 Neo / Find X2 Lite
  • Reno 6 / Reno 6 Pro / Reno 6 Pro+ / Reno 6Z
  • Reno 5 / Reno 5 Pro / Reno 5 Pro+ / Reno 5 Lite / Reno 5K / Reno 5F

  • Reno 3 / Reno 3 Pro
  • OPPO A95 / OPPO A94 / OPPO A93 / OPPO A93s
  • OPPO A74 / OPPO A73 / OPPO A72
  • OPPO A55 / OPPO A54 / OPPO A53 / OPPO A53s / OPPO A52
  • OPPO A35 / OPPO A33 / OPPO A32 / OPPO A31
  • OPPO A16 / OPPO A15s / OPPO A12s / OPPO A12e
  • OPPO K9 / OPPO K7x / OPPO K7
  • OPPO F19 Pro / OPPO F19 Pro+ / OPPO F19
  • OPPO F17 Pro / OPPO F17
  • OPPO F15

While OxygenOS 12 arguably performs as a watered-down ColorOS, the actual ColorOS 12 release looked and performed very well in our tests. The UI looks cleaner than the 11 OS, with better icons and spacing and OPPO’s unique spin on the Material You color picker tool. So we’re excited to see how the final version works.

When will my Samsung phone get Android 12?

one-ui-4-widgets-digital-wellbeing-weath

As of early January, Samsung has released or partially rolled out One UI 4 on dozens of devices, churning out updates like nobody’s business. It’s genuinely impressive how far ahead Samsung is of the other manufacturers. It’s even beating its own official One UI 4 roadmap.

So far, the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Note 20 series, and Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 3 have globally received Android 12.

Plus, Samsung has initiated rollouts for the other Z foldables, S20 series, Note 10 series, S10 series, and some of the 2021 A series phones. Whether you’ve received it will depend on where you live.

Sony is another OEM that hasn’t revealed its update plans. But given that Sony typically offers two software upgrades for its phones, we predict that this will be the Sony Android 12 update list:

  • Sony Xperia 10 III
  • Sony Xperia Pro
  • Sony Xperia Pro-I
  • Sony Xperia 1 II

Beginning in early January, Sony began its Android 12 update rollout with the Xperia I III and 5 III. According to Sony, it will add tools like native scrolling screenshots, privacy indicators for the camera and mic, approximate location, and improved one-handed use.

When will my Xiaomi phone get Android 12?

xiaomi-mi-11-ultra-20.jpg

Xiaomi’s MIUI 12.5 Android 11 OS is the company’s best software in years. So we’re excited to see how MIUI 13 based on Android 12 performs. The imminent Xiaomi 12 should receive it from launch, while other recent Xiaomi phones should receive the beta soon.

Xiaomi supported the Android 12 beta on certain phones like the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Ultra, but only stock Android, not the MIUI skin. Now, Gizmochina has revealed the official Xiaomi MIUI 13 (Android 12) roadmap for its global updates.
