How Will VR Change Gaming in the Future Decade

There are references to Virtual Reality being the future of gaming in many futuristic movies. Not many films have predicted the future accurately of course. Back to the Future can be an example of this as we’re not yet driving flying cars. Nevertheless, we cannot simply rule out the possibility that most games in the next decade and other decades to come may be heavily influenced by VR. We do not know whether our world will look like the one depicted in Ready Player One in a few decades, but we can most definitely predict that VR has a huge part to play in our world in the nearest future. 

There is no gainsaying that VR has been idolized as a considerable part of the future in recent decades. In the past few years, however, steps have been taking towards making VR a significant part of gaming. Overall, the gaming industry is undergoing a mass evolution. And VR has not seen as much growth as PC or mobile gaming. This is understandable as VR games are much more difficult to design. Regardless, with advancements in technology, the growth in VR gaming, albeit slow, is inevitable. 

Since the 1950s, the use of VR has improved in many industries. In the past decade, we have witnessed the creation of different gaming devices. We have the HTC Vive Headset, the Samsung Gear VR Headset, a list of great Oculus headsets after Facebook acquired the company. Cardboard, Play Station Virtual Reality, The X-Box One X,  and many more examples stand witnesses to VR’s popularity. More than ever, tech companies are going out of their way to create beautiful masterpieces that will significantly affect the gaming space in the coming years. Over the following subheadings, we shall look at how VR will affect gaming in the next decade. 

More Immersive Games

Even though the headset was great and many of its users were afforded a pleasant experience, there were still many complaints about movement restrictions. The problem of technological devices not having wireless connections seems outdated. Nevertheless, not every VR device is enabled to work without wires. Oculus has already created devices such as the Oculus Quest 2 that allow you to move freely, and more devices like this will be made in the coming decade. 

Costs of Gaming  

Many gamers would complain that the price of owning a VR device is too high, and they can’t afford one. Of course, many factors affect the price of commodities, and one of them is the cost of production. So, it might be out of place to blame tech companies for the high costs of VR equipment. I mean, the PSVR cost just as much as the PlayStation 4 console in 2016. 

Tech companies have been reluctant to produce VR devices. Many gaming industry stakeholders purport that this is due to the high cost of producing VR devices, especially because many gamers do not necessarily like VR. So, sales have not been very encouraging. Anyway, the infusion of VR into gaming is likely to increase gaming devices’ costs in the next decade. Interest in VR 

PwC predicts that before the end of 2021, there will be 85 million headsets in use in China. PwC also predicts that VR can boost the global GDP by $1.5 trillion in 2030. PlayStation is arguably the most popular gaming brand in the world. Yet, so far, the sales of the PSVR have fallen short of expectations. This begs the question, “Do gamers love VR?” There is no doubt that VR is quite exciting and immersive, but VR devices’ sales and the reactions from gamers do not seem to reveal this excitement. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that people’s interest in VR will shape how the concept will affect gaming in the future decade.
