Samsung will reportedly launch a Galaxy Book Pro laptop with an OLED display

Share

Samsung could be working on a previously unknown laptop and tablet, both of which would come with an OLED screen and S Pen support.

Though not many details are officially known about the devices, Bluetooth SIG certification obtained by SamMobile revealed what’s believed to be a Galaxy Book Pro, as well as a Galaxy Book Pro 360. The Galaxy Book Pro could be a traditional laptop, whereas Galaxy Book Pro 360 is more of a convertible — like the Galaxy Book Flex 2, where you can rotate the screen around and hold it in different modes.

Both devices could also come in 13.3 inch and 15.6-inch versions, according to The Verge, which also picked up on the report. As for connectivity on the devices, the traditional Galaxy Book Pro might come with traditional 4G LTE and the Galaxy Book Pro 360 with 5G.

Since these products are carrying the “Pro” moniker, it’s likely that these would be high-end devices. Intel’s 11th-generation Core i5 or Core i7 processors could also be found under the hood, too.

These processors are already on board premium devices from this year, including the Microsoft Surface Pro 7+. For high-end devices, this would make sense, with Intel’s latest chips offering extended battery life, as well as advancements in light gaming.

Samsung is known for its OLED technology, but it’s not likely that the Galaxy Book Pro or Galaxy Book Pro 360 would use the newer 14-inch 90Hz OLED panels that Samsung is making for other laptop makers. But that won’t be a letdown, as Samsung’s standard OLED panels are known for color accuracy and high resolution.

As for the S Pen, it has been included with the Galaxy Book Flex before, but since Samsung included a new S Pen model with the Galaxy S21, these new laptops might have some sort of new inking or Bluetooth technology on board, too.

If this rumor holds up to be true, Samsung would have quite the lineup of laptops and tablets in 2021. The company already has the Galaxy Book Flex 2 and the Galaxy Book Flex 5G, as well as Galaxy Book Ion 2 and Notebook Plus 2. The Chromebook option, the Galaxy Chromebook 2, launched on February 16.
