Tired of the same old gameplay loop? Mix it up with these custom games.
Among Us has defied the odds and has skyrocketed in popularity. The game was relatively unknown when it was originally released back in 2018 but has since seen a major boost in its player base, thanks to the help of some viral streamers. In Among Us, up to 10 players have to work together to complete tasks found around the map, all while avoiding the Imposters lurking in the shadows, plotting the deaths of the crew. It’s an engaging social deduction game that is available on PC, Android, and iOS.
After exploring the game’s three levels, you might be asking for more ways to play. Well, the good news is that games can be customized to your liking. Not happy with the recommended settings? Make it a horror movie
An alien lurking in the shadows trying to kill the crew – sounds like the makings of a horror movie, right? Well, to turn your game into a bonafide monster movie, try these settings:
Map | The Skeld |
Number of Imposters | 1 |
Confirm Ejects | Enable |
Number of Emergency Meetings | 0 |
Emergency Cooldown | 60 seconds |
Discussion Time | 15 seconds |
Voting Time | 15 seconds |
Player Speed | 1.5x |
Crewmate Vision | 2x |
Imposter Vision | 0.25x |
Kill Cooldown | 10 seconds |
Visual Tasks | On |
Kill Distance | Short |
Common Task | 0 |
Long Task | 0 |
Short Task | 5 |
The key to making this game mode work is to agree to not report bodies or call an emergency meeting. If you are using voice chat with your friends, agree to mute your mic if you’re dead and only communicate with other dead folks through the in-game chat. If you just witnessed a brutal murder, though, tell your friends! Imposters should refrain from sabotaging anything except the doors. That’ll up the game’s tension significantly as players scramble to escape the clutches of their soon-to-be killer.
Just a little game of Hide and Seek
This game mode has been put together by fans who enjoy the chase. For a rousing game of Hide and Seek, try these settings:
Map | The Skeld |
Number of Imposters | 1 |
Confirm Ejects | Enable |
Number of Emergency Meetings | 0 |
Emergency Cooldown | 60 seconds |
Discussion Time | 15 seconds |
Voting Time | 15 seconds |
Player Speed | 1.5x |
Crewmate Vision | 4x |
Imposter Vision | 0.5x |
Kill Cooldown | 10 seconds |
Visual Tasks | Off |
Kill Distance | Short |
Common Task | 0 |
Long Task | 0 |
Short Task | 5 |
The Imposter should announce who they are at the start of the match. The Imposter can’t see much, but their kill cooldown is very short. Players must complete their tasks as quickly as possible and avoid being killed. You can’t vote the killer off, but you can report bodies. Doing so, however, will bring the killer to you, so watch out. Make the Imposter count to 10 and find a good spot to hide!
Feeling frantic
Feeling Hide and Seek but want to take things to another level? Try Frantic mode:
Map | Any |
Number of Imposters | 1 |
Confirm Ejects | Enable |
Number of Emergency Meetings | 0 |
Emergency Cooldown | 60 seconds |
Discussion Time | 15 seconds |
Voting Time | 15 seconds |
Player Speed | 1x |
Crewmate Vision | 0.25x |
Imposter Vision | 0.5x |
Kill Cooldown | 20 seconds |
Visual Tasks | Off |
Kill Distance | Short |
Common Task | 1 |
Long Task | 2 |
Short Task | 3 |
Frantic mode is like an amped-up version of Hide and Seek. The Imposter must announce who they are and allow players 30 seconds to get to work on their task. Once the time is up, the Imposter sets out to kill the crew before they finish their tasks. Crewmates cannot report the body or call an emergency meeting. To make things even more suspenseful, Imposters can sabotage communications and lights, but the Crewmates are not allowed to fix it.
Step into the Gauntlet
What is best in Among Us? To see the Imposters driven before you, to hear the lamentations of your fellow Crewmates. If you’d that Among Us was a 1 on 1 affair, try this Gauntlet mode:
Map | Any |
Number of Imposters | 2 or 3 |
Confirm Ejects | Off |
Number of Emergency Meetings | However many Imposters |
Emergency Cooldown | 60 seconds |
Discussion Time | 15 seconds |
Voting Time | 60 seconds |
Player Speed | 1.5x |
Crewmate Vision | 1x |
Imposter Vision | 0.25x |
Kill Cooldown | 30 seconds |
Visual Tasks | Off |
Kill Distance | Short |
Common Task | 0 |
Long Task | 0 |
Short Task | 2 or 3 |
Sometimes you just want to have a good ol’ fashion 1-on-1 battle – astronaut versus astronaut. In this mode, Players stay at the spawn and elect one Crewmate and one Imposter to run the gauntlet. The Crewmate takes the lead first, and after about 15 seconds, the Imposter follows.
The Crewmate needs to finish their tasks and not get caught by the Imposter. Once the Crewmate is done with their work, they must scramble back and call an Emergency Meeting to claim victory. If the Crewmate makes it back unscathed, then the group votes off the Imposter.
Murder, you say?
This is the mode for those who love the drama of a courtroom drama. Lay down your case with Murder, She Wrote:
Map | Any |
Number of Imposters | Any |
Confirm Ejects | Off |
Number of Emergency Meetings | Any |
Emergency Cooldown | 60 seconds |
Discussion Time | 15 seconds |
Voting Time | 60 seconds |
Player Speed | 1.5x |
Crewmate Vision | 1x |
Imposter Vision | 1x |
Kill Cooldown | 30 seconds |
Visual Tasks | Off |
Kill Distance | Short |
Common Task | 2 |
Long Task | 3 |
Short Task | 5 |
The rules of Murder, She Wrote are simple — you play the game of Among Us as normal, but only the person who reported the body can answer questions. It puts the spotlight directly on the person who discovered the body, and they can potentially lead the crew to victory or accidentally play into the Imposter’s hand.
Make some small talk
The custom game mode Small Talk can be played under any conditions, and the rules are quite simple. Players play as they normally would, but once a body has been discovered or an emergency meeting has been called, players can only speak using five words. If they say more than five, they get voted off. No questions asked.
Pick your poison
Among Us has quickly become a party favorite, thanks to its availability and addictive gameplay. These are just a couple of great games that the community has created, but I’m sure there will be even more creative ways to play as the game matures. Be sure to make adjustments to the settings depending on the level you’re playing on or who you’re playing with. Are there any custom games you like to play? Let us know in the comments.
