The Oculus Quest 2 is the newest VR headset on the block, delivering a stellar experience with no wires to trip over. The best accessories for the Oculus Quest 2 will help you get an even better experience, but first you’ll need to make sure the headset is a good fit. You want a fit that is firm so it won’t slip off your head while playing, but without being too tight. After all, you are going to be wearing this for a while, right? Here’s how to adjust the Quest 2 strap.

How to get the best fit with Oculus Quest 2

The headstrap that ships with the Oculus Quest 2 is very different from what Facebook used on the original Oculus Quest, so even if you’ve owned that device in the past you’ll need to retrain your brain on how to adjust the Quest 2. First, we’ll want to adjust the side straps to wrap comfortable around your head.

Remove your Oculus Quest 2 from the box.
Remove any plastic inserts from the headset and unwrap the cloth straps.

To adjust the circumference of the straps, hold the straps from the back and grab the plastic sliders.

Move the sliders closer together to make the circumference smaller, and move the straps further apart to make the circumference larger.

Once you’ve got approximately the right size for your head, lift the Oculus Quest 2 and place it to your head.

  • I prefer to place the display portion on my face first and then lower the straps down onto the back of my head.

From here, continue to tighten or loosen the straps to best fit your head.

  • You’ll want a snug fit that keeps the headset in place when using the Quest 2, but not so tight that it feels uncomforatble.

Ensure the strap makes a straight line around the back of your head from the front of the headset. The strap should rest above your ears and hug the occipital bone at the back of your head.

Once you’ve got the Quest 2 giving your head a nice tight hug, you’ll want to adjust the top strap to keep the display from sagging.

With the Oculus Quest 2 on your head and the side straps tightened, reach up top and unstrap the velcro.
Tighten the velcro by pulling the velcro strap toward the back, which brings the height of the side straps up.

Loosen the velcro strap by pulling the side strap down with one hand while holding onto the velcro strap with the other hand.

The goal is to get the side strap to go straight around the mid-point of the back of your head. The strap should create a straight line from the Quest 2 to the back of your head.

How to adjust Oculus Quest 2 for best fit with glasses

If you need to wear glasses while using your Oculus Quest 2, you’ll want to use the spacer that comes in the box. This is to ensure there’s enough room to fit your glasses inside the Quest 2 without scratching the lenses.

Remove the plastic insert from inside the Quest 2’s box.

If it’s difficult to remove, try gently squeezing the sides to help loosen it.

  • Be careful not to crack the pastic around the pad by squeezing too hard.

Remove your Oculus Quest from the box. You’ll also want to remove any stickers on inserts at this time.
With one hand hold your Quest up to your face.
Using your free hand tighten the velcro straps on the left and right side of your head. It should feel firm but not tight.

Remove your hand to ensure that the headset is tight enough against your face.
Adjust your headset up or down to make sure there is minimal light bleed and that it sits comfortably.

How to adjust Oculus Quest for best fit with glasses

For the folks out there who use glasses in order to see, there is another step. The Oculus Quest includes a plastic piece which will make it more comfortable to wear, and you’ll need to install it before playing.

Remove the plastic insert from inside the box. It has an icon of glasses on the top.
Remove the foam insert from your Oculus Quest.
Press the plastic insert onto the foam pad. You’ll hear a click when it is correctly attached.
Line up the foam pad with the cutouts around the lenses of the Quest.
Press down firmly to reattach the foam insert into your Quest.

Getting the perfect fit with Oculus Quest is going to differ from person to person. Some folks will need to make sure the top strap is extra secure, while others won’t need to worry about it as much. After all, everyone has a different face, which means the headset needs to be readjusted for each person as they get ready to play.

For the best experience you will want a firm fit that doesn’t feel tight. If you’re new to VR, you want the back of the strap to sit against the lower back of your head. It should sit at the top of your neck and the bottom of your skull. This way the headset’s weight is better distributed and not all on the front of your face.
