The Galaxy S20 FE is the best T-Mobile phone for most people

Share

T-Mobile has a good lineup of phones at a variety of price points, ranging from the top of the line all the way down to affordable entry-level phones that you might not even need to finance monthly. Samsung makes some of the best T-Mobile phones, but it’s far from your only option.

Best overall

Staff pick

The Galaxy S20 FE pretty much does it all. It has some of the latest and greatest specs, 5G support, an industry-leading flat display, amazing rear cameras that let you get a closer or wider shot at the touch of a button, and up to 30x zoom. Best of all, it’s cheaper than the rest of the S20 series, and comes in a variety of fun colors.

Productivity flagship

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is an incredible flagship, packing a huge 6.9-inch WQHD+ display, a 4,500mAh battery, and of course, the S Pen. In addition to writing, drawing, and signing documents, the S Pen lets you control the Note 20 Ultra remotely, which means you can take group photos or control music playback without ever touching the phone. There’s also a built-in video editor, along with DeX support for a desktop-like experience.

All-day battery

LG V60 ThinQ

The LG V60 is a compelling alternative to Samsung’s offerings for hundreds of dollars less. You get the same Snapdragon 865 and 5G support, along with a three versatile cameras, 8K video recording, and a 5,000mAh battery that offers outrageously good battery life. You can even get the Dual Screen attachment to double your screen real estate (at the cost of some slight battery drain).

OxygenOS

OnePlus 8T+

The OnePlus 8T may not be the incredible deal some of its predecessors were, but it’s still an extremely powerful flagship at a reasonable price. You get a huge 120Hz display with 65W fast charging, a Snapdragon 865+ processor with 5G support, water resistance, and wireless charging — not to mention the ultra-clean OxygenOS software, complete with Android 11 running out of the box.

Best foldable

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

A phone at this price isn’t for the faint of heart, but the Z Fold 2 is by far and away the most refined foldable money can buy. The hardware is jaw-dropping, with a narrow 6.23-inch cover display that folds out to a 7.6-inch display (measured diagonally), doubling the width and freeing you up for multitasking and a tablet-like experience. You also get three great cameras on the back, which you can even use to take selfies.

Extra cheap

Moto E

The Moto E is all about value. With a sizeable 3,550mAh battery inside, it boasts up to two days of battery life in one charge, and offers modern appointments like a nearly bezel-less display, dual cameras, and a 19:9 aspect ratio. You get fairly modern software as well, with Android 10, and you can always expand the 32GB of internal storage with a microSD slot for expansion.

You have plenty of options at T-Mobile

Whether you’re shopping for a four-figure flagship or looking for the best deal you can find on a simple Android phone, T-Mobile has plenty of great options to pick from. If you want the absolute best phone that does just about everything well, it’s hard to go wrong with the Galaxy S20 FE. You’ll get incredibly powerful cameras, one of the best displays money can buy, 5G data speeds, and blisteringly fast performance.

If you have extra cash to burn, you can go even further with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, which offers largely the same experience but packs in the S Pen as a bonus, allowing for precise touch input, remote operation, and more.

Luckily, there are plenty of options that won’t cost you an arm and a leg, as well. In particular, the 2020 Moto E is about as cheap as a phone gets these days while still offering competent Android 10 software, a great rear-mounted fingerprint sensor (perfect for these mask-wearing days), and even a headphone jack. It isn’t perfect; it still uses Micro-USB, and the cameras aren’t great by any means. But these are perfectly acceptable trade-offs when you consider just how much you’re saving with this phone.
