As 2020 draws to a close, this year alone has already tested how people work together to address critical challenges at home and across the globe. In order for robust collaboration to happen in the world, people must first set aside differences and practice cooperation.
With that said, there are still many hurdles to jump over, should this world continue to thrive. And the question is: Can people make 2021 better than 2020 by implementing change?
Here are 5 of the most major issues in modern society:
- Global Health / Bioengineering
“In 2020 alone, the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed world leaders to have their medical researchers and experts search for a vaccine to help people get over this unprecedented event in history,” says Irene Sheley, a writer at Writinity and Draft beyond. “Therefore, there’s no denying that the issue of global health has skyrocketed to the point where bioengineering is being modified and used at different levels – from patient care, to medical organizations, and so on. The ultimate goal of global health is to ensure that everyone in the world has sufficient access to healthcare and medical services.”
- Digitization And Information
Digital technology has evolved substantially in 2020 alone. With the pandemic leading to worldwide lockdowns and shutdowns, and people being told to stay at home to stop the spread of COVID-19, many have taken to video conferencing apps and social media to continue their lives as much as they can. As a result, digitization has become a booming business in many industries – marketing, television, business practices, social media, gaming, etc.
However, with tech advancements come consequences. In a digital society, the issue of users’ privacy has been called into question, along with production of certain products and services. Plus, with more and more people working remotely, they’re either kept or furloughed depending on consumer demand.
Regardless of the pros and cons, digitization depends on new methods that are implemented for modeling, capture, treatment, and communication of information. From there, information can be processed into raw material, which can then be used to create something useful.
- Accelerated Climate Action
Climate change has been evident – especially this year – due to the following factors:
- Wildfires
- Hurricanes
- Ice caps melting
- Rising sea levels
- Island nations in danger
- Many ecosystems at risk
And, with these concerns comes people advocating for immediate attention and action, thus leading into a global consciousness on climate change. Activists and advocates hope to limit global emissions caused by pollution, man-made disasters, etc. with the next few decades. And, as public opinion on this continues to shift, it’s already clear that progress to involve the planet is not stopping any time soon.
- Push For Inclusion And Equality
“Inequality has been a central theme this year in 2020,” says Dylan Khan, a journalist at Last minute writing and Research papers UK. “Now more than ever, people are looking for equality in every aspect of life – the workplace, schools, the media, etc. No longer do people want to be held back by restricting borders. So, by implementing inclusive strategies, people can topple over barriers, and transform the world for the better. Considered a humanity crisis for progressives and others who advocate for equality, activists and speakers hope to change the world by raising awareness, and building the necessary approaches to combat inequality and exclusion.”
- The Economy
Today, nations are seeing the global economy developing major concerns, when it comes to oil prices, the cost of consumer goods, how much debt a country has, etc. Now, there’s a great distinction between which are the poorest nations, and which are the wealthiest. Some of the factors that may have caused these concerns include:
- Population explosion
- Inflation of currencies
- Natural disasters that cost affected countries millions
- Poor economic planning from leadership
- Government corruption
Conclusion
Now, while these are just 5 of the major issues that modern society faces, that doesn’t mean that people should keep them on the backburner for a moment longer. And, while some issues carry a lot more weight than others, that ultimately depends on public opinion.
The good news is, in 2020 alone, there has been more awareness spread about said issues. And, with the ability to take action, through shared interests and cooperative collaboration, the future ahead will look more promising than what’s been witnessed in the past – especially in this year alone.
