What you need to know

  • Samsung has brought the Galaxy A71 to Verizon Wireless.
  • This model is dubbed the Galaxy A71 5G UW as it ships with support for Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband.
  • The A71 will go on sale from July 16.

Samsung announced the Galaxy A71 for T-Mobile and Sprint, last month, and now it’s coming to Verizon from July 16 from as little as $15 per month (with pre-orders opening on July 9).

Like with Samsung’s S20 before it, Verizon’s model is built with support for the network’s 5G Ultra Wideband (hence the name Galaxy A71 5G UW).

The A71 has a large 6.7-inch near bezel-less FHD+ AMOLED display, a 4,5000 mAh battery with fast charging, and a (dubiously good) quad-camera set-up. As it is a mid-range smartphone, Samsung is using what it calls a “glasstic” design over the glass and metal it uses for its flagships. It’ll still look nice, it’s just going to be made of faux-glass plastic.

The Galaxy A71 will also be made available to AT&T and unlocked customers later in the summer.

Reviewing the Galaxy A71, Android Central’s Harish Jonnalagadda concluded:

Overall, the Galaxy A71 offers fantastic value for what you end up paying for the phone. The Snapdragon 730 is a powerful mid-range chipset that will deliver a lag-free usage experience for several years, and the design should similarly hold up. You also get excellent battery life with 25W fast charging, One UI 2.0 with Android 10, and that 64MP camera isn’t all that bad either.
