The Galaxy M01s isn’t a successor to the M01.

What you need to know

  • The Galaxy M01s is the latest addition to Samsung’s Galaxy M series.
  • It sports a 6.2-inch Infinity-V display and runs on a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset.
  • The entry-level phone has been priced at ₹9,999 ($133) in India.

Samsung today launched a new entry-level Galaxy M-series smartphone in India, just a month after it launched the Galaxy M01 and M11 in the country. The new Galaxy M01s comes with some upgrades over the Galaxy M01, but there are a few surprising downgrades too.

The Galaxy M01s brings a bigger 6.2-inch Infinity-V display with HD+ resolution. It runs on MediaTek’s Helio P22 octa-core chipset, which is a slightly less powerful than the Snapdragon 439 chipset powering the Galaxy M01. Samsung has paired the 12nm chipset on the Galaxy M01s with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage.

On the back of the phone is a dual-camera setup that features a 13MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, the M01s has an 8MP camera on the front, a slight upgrade over the 5MP selfie camera on the Galaxy M01. The Galaxy M01s also includes a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is missing on the M01.

Keeping the lights on is a large 4,000mAh battery, although the phone doesn’t support fast charging. It also lacks a USB Type-C port. The biggest disappointment, however, is the phone’s software. The Galaxy M01s will ship with Samsung’s One UI Core 1.1, based on Android 9.0 Pie.

The Galaxy M01s has been priced at ₹9,999 ($133) in India, making it slightly more affordable than the Galaxy M01. It will soon be available to purchase in the country in Light Blue and Gray color options.
