Clarity in security

Cons

The EufyCam 2 has been a winning choice since it’s 2019 debut, offering quality 1080p video, local storage, on-device people detection, and no subscription fees. It’s totally wireless and a cinch to install, too.

The EufyCam 2 Pro’s 2020 launch is right on time. People are spending more time home than ever but still need great security systems for monitoring the front door or for when things go wrong during the night. Being that the EufyCam 2 launched in 2019, it makes sense that a 2020 upgrade would include a higher resolution camera sensor if nothing else. That’s it! That’s the only difference between these two cameras! Here’s what that means for you.

While the difference won’t necessarily blow your mind (2048×1080 vs. 1920×1080 doesn’t exactly sound like a big upgrade), the image quality difference is far greater than the numbers let on.

When compared to the EufyCam 2, the EufyCam 2 Pro sports a much clearer picture, including finer details, better light balance, and even greater color accuracy. This higher quality video isn’t just for sheer looks though; it also serves a real purpose. Aside from being able to zoom in and get better distance detail, the increased clarity also helps with accuracy when using the people identification feature.

While you’ll be getting enhanced video quality from the EufyCam 2 Pro, you’ll also be getting the amazing year-long battery life and totally wireless connectivity from it, as well. That means, despite Eufy enhancing the quality by a noticeable amount, you won’t have to settle for worse battery life or the need to wire the cameras up to provide better bandwidth. You also won’t need a new HomeBase, as the EufyCam 2 Pro works with the existing HomeBase 2 that the entire EufyCam 2 family of devices supports. That means you can easily pick up EufyCam 2 Pro’s and add them to your existing system without needing to make changes.

Keep it local, keep it safe

One of Eufy’s biggest strengths is the fact that you don’t need a subscription to view any of your videos. It’s one of the best security cameras with local storage on the market. While local video recording can sometimes be a pain, the Eufy Security app makes it simple to get connected to and view your recorded videos from anywhere in the world. You can even configure your own network-attached storage (NAS) device to store videos for a longer period of time, all from within the Eufy Security app.

Pairing your cameras (or any other Eufy device) to the Eufy HomeBase is super secure. All you need to do is log into the app and physically press a button on the camera to pair with the base station. This ensures no rogue devices can hijack your feed if someone is trying to connect locally to your network. Eufy has also begun its rollout of two-factor authentication (2FA) in several countries throughout the world; an important staple of modern security that ensures no one else can view your camera feeds.

Should you get EufyCam 2 Pro or EufyCam 2?

While the EufyCam 2 still provides an incredible value in every area, the extra $10 cost of the EufyCam 2 Pro is completely worth the price. Even if you get the EufyCam 2 or EufyCam 2 Pro bundle, you won’t see a huge price difference. The only thing that extra cash gets you is a camera with noticeably better quality video in every way without sacrificing the best features of the EufyCam 2, including year-long battery life and totally wireless setup.
