Formerly OPPO’s sub-brand, Realme this week announced a 125W charging solution for its phones (via GizmoChina), just a day after OPPO did the same. That’s not surprising, of course, because despite the decoupling of the two from a business standpoint, Realme is still heavily dependent on OPPO for most of its technical expertise and the two companies’ solutions are likely the same, just with a different branding.
Realme’s UltraDart charging tech, as it’s called, will be able to charge a 4,000 mAh battery to 33% in just three minutes, claims the company. That wattage, by the way, is more than what most laptop chargers ship with, so it’s not surprising that Realme claims its charger will also be able to power notebooks — so long as they have a USB-C port capable of charging the device, that is.
With that much power, heat dissipation is obviously going to be a big concern, and Realme says its use of a flip-chip structure as well as an ultra-thin soaking plate should keep charging temps below 40°C, at most. It’s also using a thermal gel and a multi-layer large-area graphite sheet to help with heat dissipation.
UltraDart chargers will also be backward compatible with VOOC, Dart, Warp, SuperVOOC, SuperVOOC 2.0, and SuperDart charging protocols, the charging solutions offered by OPPO and its sister companies (Vivo and OnePlus) under the BBK umbrella.
