With an aim to take on Zoom, Google made Meet free for all users with a Google account in late April. Just three weeks after the introduction of a free tier, the Google Meet app zoomed past 50 million downloads on the Play Store. As spotted by the folks over at Android Police, the Google Meet app has crossed yet another milestone. It has now surpassed 100 million installs on the Google Play Store.
According to data from AppBrain, the Google Meet app has been averaging 1 million downloads a day since mid-May. What is also quite impressive is that Meet has taken just 50 days to double its install count on the Play Store. Needless to pay, Zoom’s serious security and privacy issues have probably played a role in making Google Meet so popular among users. A bigger reason, however, is the fact that most companies have switched to the work-from-home format due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
To help make Meet more popular, Google rolled out Gmail integration for both iOS and Android last month. The Meet integration in Gmail allows users to quickly join meetings directly from the main Gmail interface. However, you can choose to disable Meet integration by heading over to the settings menu.
