What you need to know

  • Google has added a total of 23 insects to its collection of 3D animals on Android and iOS devices.
  • The new additions are now available to view on all devices that support ARCore.
  • Android users can not just see the AR insects but also hear them.

Last month, Google partnered with Universal to add 10 AR dinosaurs to its collection of 3D animals and objects in search. The search giant has now expanded its list once again by adding 23 creepy crawlies (via The Verge).

Here’s the full list of insects that you can now view on devices supporting ARCore:

  • Atlas beetle
  • Atlas moth
  • Brown cicada
  • Dragonfly
  • Evening cicada
  • Firefly
  • Giant stag
  • Grasshopper
  • Hercules beetle
  • Hornet
  • Jewel beetle
  • Ladybug
  • Mantis
  • Miyama stag beetle
  • Morpho butterfly
  • Periodical cicada
  • Robust cicada
  • Rosalia batesi
  • Rhinoceros beetle
  • Shining ball scarab beetle
  • Stag beetle
  • Swallowtail butterfly
  • Walker’s cicada

To view the new AR insects, all you need to do is search for the name of the insect and then tap on the “View in 3D” option on your phone or tablet. Interestingly, Android users can even choose to hear the insects hover around them.

If you aren’t too keen on seeing AR insects hover in your living room, you can view 3D land animals, house pets, birds, and underwater animals in search. Aside from animals, you can also check out a wide range of other 3D objects such as planets, moons, cars, animal cells, and more.
