What you need to know

  • The LG Velvet will be available in Canada on August 7.
  • The 5G enabled-phone is now available for pre-order on LG.ca and participating carriers.
  • Pre-orders between July 16 and August 6 receive hundreds in incentive bonuses.

LG recently made a splash with the unveiling of its new Velvet series of 5G-enabled phones. Initially slated for release in the U.S. and a few other markets, the sub-premium flagship devices are now being made available to Canadian customers as well, according to an official press release.

Starting today, customers in Canada can pre-order the device from LG.ca and at participating carriers. LG says the Velvet will be available from the following retailers: Bell, Eastlink, Fido, Freedom Mobile, Koodo, Rogers, SaskTel, Telus, Videotron, Virgin, Best Buy, TBooth, Wireless Etc. (Costco), The Mobile Shop, The Source, Visions, Wal-Mart, Wireless Wave, WOW Mobile, and Xplore Mobile. Canadian customers who pre-order will receive a $200 Visa gift card and a pair of LG Tone Free (FN6) wireless earbuds, while supplies last.

Alex Dobie recently reviewed the LG Velvet for Android Central and gave it a mediocre grade thanks to some initial quirks with its camera processing. But if you’re someone who is clamoring for a fresh new look from LG, who is excited by the Dual Screen case option, and who wants good battery and a headphone jack, then this is a great option to consider.

LG brings new styling to its latest flagship

The LG Velvet is an attractive smartphone, boasting a unique Dual Screen attachment and 5G connectivity at a price significantly less than the top-tier Android flagships. But it isn’t the speediest handset in its price category, and photo quality isn’t the best we’ve seen.
