What you need to know

  • Motorola may not release another foldable smartphone this year.
  • The RAZR successor has apparently been delayed by a quarter and is now likely to go on sale in early 2021.
  • It was previously rumored to be unveiled in the third quarter of 2020.

Motorola RAZR 2, which is rumored to come with a more powerful Snapdragon 765 chipset and a few other upgrades, may not be launched this year. According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the RAZR 2 has been delayed by a quarter due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We hearing that the Motorola Razr 2 is delayed a quarter due to COVID-19. Not likely available until 2021.

If Young’s information is accurate, the Motorola RAZR 2 will be launched sometime early next year. However, it is possible that the Lenovo-owned company will announce the phone in the fourth quarter of the year and begin selling it in the first quarter of 2021. The first-generation Motorola RAZR was announced in November last year but went on sale in select markets only in February.

The Motorola RAZR 2’s main rival will be the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G, which is tipped to debut alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2 in August. Unlike the 4G Galaxy Z Flip, which runs on a Snapdragon 855+ processor, the 5G-enabled version of the phone is rumored to have the latest Snapdragon 865 under the hood.

Motorola RAZR 2, the other hand, is expected to be powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 765 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. It is also rumored to feature a 48MP ISOCELL Bright GM1 sensor on the back and a 20MP front camera for selfies. The foldable phone may also feature a 6.7-inch “Flex View” display and a slightly larger outer display than its predecessor.
