In March last year, Xiaomi demonstrated the world’s first 100W fast charging solution for smartphones. Just three months later, Vivo showcased its insane 120W Super FlashCharge tech, claimed to fill a 4,000mAh battery in a mere 13 minutes. Even though a year has now passed, there is still no word on exactly when the two companies plan to roll out their next-gen fast charging tech on commercial devices.
According to a new post from leaker Digital Chat Station, consumers will need to wait until Q1 2021 to get their hands on the first phones with 100W+ fast charging solutions. The leaker claims three out of four Chinese gaming phone makers are testing and “promoting the commercialization” of 100W fast charging tech.

Since Xiaomi hasn’t launched any gaming phone under the Mi brand yet, it is likely that the company’s first phone with 100W fast charging will carry the BlackShark branding. Vivo is likely to launch its first gaming phone with the 120W Super FlashCharge tech under the iQOO brand. The third company maker that is said to be currently testing 100W+ fast charging tech could be Nubia, which launched the first gaming phone with a 144Hz display earlier this year.
Aside from support for 100W or higher fast charging speeds, the other main selling point of the flagship gaming phones set to be released early next year will be the Snapdragon 875 chipset. The Snapdragon 875 is expected to be Qualcomm’s first flagship mobile processor to be built on TSMC’s 5nm process.
