Motorola is all set to unveil a handful of new phones next month at its scheduled event ahead of the Mobile World Congress. Courtesy of 91Mobiles, we reportedly have our first look at one of the company’s next pair of affordable smartphones: The Moto G8.
The most striking upgrade Motorola has made is the addition of a hole-punch display. The new Moto G8 will have a tiny cutout for the selfie camera in the top-left corner, replacing the centered notch found on its predecessor and a bunch of other Motorola phones. The rest of the LCD screen will go nearly edge to edge except for a thick chin, which has been possibly kept as a cost-cutting measure.
Apart from that, the Moto G8 will have a familiar polycarbonate exterior that will be available in two color options — white and blue — both of which will have a textured finish.
The second, key highlight of the new phone will be the three-camera array on the back. As per the leak, there will be a primary 16-megapixel f/1.7 sensor, a 2-megapixel f/2.2 macro lens, and an 8-megapixel f/2.2 118-degree wide-angle shooter. On the front, the Moto G8 is expected to feature an 8-megapixel camera.
Similar to previous Motorola phones, the Moto G8 sports a physical fingerprint sensor housed under the rear Moto logo. Fortunately, Motorola has also retained the 3.5mm audio jack likely to ensure the new phones can go toe to toe with their Chinese rivals, all of which have yet to give up the headphone port at least on their budget offerings.
According to an earlier XDA Developers report, the Moto G8 will have a 6.39-inch HD+ display, 4,000mAh battery, up to 4GB of RAM, 32/64GB of onboard storage, and 10W wired charging.
The Moto G8 will debut alongside the more premium Moto G8 Power, which will offer a sharper 6.39-inch Full HD screen, 5,000mAh battery, a 24-megapixel selfie camera, 18W fast-charging, and an additional 8-megapixel camera on the back.
Both the Moto G8 and Moto G8 Power will come preloaded with a stock build of Android 10 except for a few Moto-specific tweaks and apps and will be powered by Qualcomm’s midrange Snapdragon 665 chipset.
Motorola is expected to take the wraps off the Moto G8 phones on February 23. Other than that, the company is also rumored to announce a stylus-equipped phone called the Moto Edge Plus.
