Android Pie has been around a while by now. The fact is that not every phone will be updated to Android 10 — the latest version as of this writing — and Pie will be the final bit of software for them. The good news is that Android phones can be super-functional and secure while running Pie, so for the people waiting for this is pretty important.

While most devices that will be updated already have been, it’s still important to keep track of how the rollout of Android Pie is progressing. Let’s break it down by the major manufacturers of the phones we love.

Google

Google has already told us which phones get updated and which won’t.

All Pixel phones have been fully updated past pie to Android 10. Even the original Pixel, which was a nice surprise.

And that’s it. Prior to the Pixel, Google promised two years of full support and three years of security updates for phones they sell under their own brand. The Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X are just about three years old. Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu, Adios, Goodbye. They were great phones.

Samsung

Samsung has updated every device that was scheduled for the Pie update in 2019.

LG has mostly fulfilled it’s update schedule, with the V20 — the first phone to run Oreo — as the lone holdout, sort of.

Huawei

Per an update from the company on December 18, 2018, the following phones have been updated or will be updated to EMUI 9.0/Pie around the world:

• Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design — updated
• Huawei P20 — updated

Motorola

On August 15, 2019, Motorola published a blog post outlining the handsets that’ll receive the official Pie update starting in fall 2018. They include:

• Moto Z3 — updated
• Moto Z3 Play — updated
• Moto Z2 Force — updated
• Moto Z2 Play — updated
• Moto X4 — updated
• Moto G6 Plus — updated
• Moto G6 — updated
• Moto G6 Play — updated

While that’s a strong list, the notable omissions include the Moto E5, E5 Plus, and E5 Play.

OnePlus

OnePlus released a statement about the update situation for its phones. it reads as follows.

OnePlus is driven by the idea of giving people the best possible hardware and software experience and that’s why we’ve been excited about Android P for some time now, having worked closely with the Android Beta Program. We’re looking forward to bringing Android P to OnePlus 6, as well as updating OnePlus 5/5T, and OnePlus 3/3T, ensuring OnePlus users all over the world can continue to enjoy new features.

These phones have all received an update to Android Pie.

Nokia

Hi, Android Pie will be available for the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8. Roll-out will be phased as usual to secure quality delivery. Nokia 7 Plus is part of the Android One program, which guarantees two years of software updates, including Pie.

Nokia seems to understand that a substantial portion of its own customer base wants fast updates. Like OnePlus, they should listen to their current customers while trying to find new ones if they are to be successful. Here’s a list of phones that have been updated or are expected to see Android Pie from Nokia.

Disappointing sales have left the future of HTC’s smartphone business in uncertainty, but the company did update all of the phones on its list of devices scheduled to recieve it.

Sony

Sony announced its Pie update plans on August 16, 2018, and has followed through with updates for each of them.

Other phones

There are a few phones with promised Android Pie updates that still haven’t received them. The BlackBerry KEY2, for instance, was slated to receive an update to Android 9 at some point in 2019 but has not received anything yet.

Google has moved onto Android 10, and if your phone still hasn’t received its Pie update by now, it probably never will. Maybe it’s time to start looking for a new phone.
