I work at my computer all day, and wrist pain has been an issue I’ve dealt with. Part of the problem is most computer mice don’t keep your hand in a more neutral position. That means for about eight hours each day, I contour my hand in a way that isn’t natural.

One solution is to use an ergonomic mouse. Because it keeps your hand in a more neutral position, an ergonomic mouse is usually incredibly comfortable to use for hours and hours.

1. Logitech MX Vertical

Vertical mice are nothing new, but the Logitech MX Vertical is the first such mouse to come from the peripheral maker. According to Logitech, the MX Vertical offers up to a 10-percent reduction in muscle strain due to the mouse’s tilt angle of 57 degrees.

Apart from the solid ergonomics, the MX Vertical also offers several distinct features. The mouse offers up to four months of battery life and can be recharged through the USB-C port. Also, the MX Vertical features wired and wireless options over Bluetooth and USB, respectively.

2. Logitech MX Ergo

The Logitech MX Ergo doesn’t win points for being a vertical mouse, since it isn’t. Instead, the MX Ergo wins points for its unique design.

The first thing you’ll notice is the gigantic trackball, which lets you move the cursor with your thumb. Arguably more important is the metallic plate attached to the MX Ergo’s body, since it lets you tilt the mouse up to 20 degrees to the right.

Using the trackball and metallic plate together results in an ergonomic and comfortable mouse experience. If you’re concerned about the trackball’s speed, the Precision Mode button next to it slows the tracking to a crawl.

3. Autley Wireless Vertical Mouse

If you want an inexpensive option for a vertical mouse, the Autley Wireless Vertical Mouse should be at the top of your list.

Featuring 800, 1200, and 1600DPI settings, Autley’s vertical mouse also features silent left and right clicks. Also available are a DPI button below the scroll wheel, forward and back buttons, and a strip of light below the thumb rest area. The forward and back buttons do not work in MacOS, unfortunately.

The mouse doesn’t feature Bluetooth, but there’s support for a 2.4GHz wireless connection with the included USB adapter. Finally, the mouse is one of a select few at its price point to have a rechargeable battery.

4. Anker Wireless Vertical Ergonomic Mouse

Anker’s best known for its power banks, but the company also makes mice. Enter the Anker Wireless Vertical Ergonomic Mouse, a clumsy name for what promises to be a very comfortable mouse to use.

Featuring 800, 1200, and 1600DPI settings, Anker’s vertical mouse features your standard array of right, left, DPI switch, forward, and back buttons. There’s also a scroll wheel. The DPI switch button is above the forward and back buttons near the thumb rest.

There’s no Bluetooth support, though wireless support is still here over the USB adapter’s 2.4GHz connection. There’s also no rechargeable battery, so you’ll have to provide your own set of AAA batteries.

5. Logitech M570

If you like the idea of the Logitech MX Ergo and find it too expensive, the Logitech M570 is your next best choice.

There’s no Bluetooth onboard, but the M570 comes with Logitech’s Unifying receiver. With the receiver, you can control your computer with the mouse from up to 30 feet away. Also, there’s no rechargeable battery. You should get up to 18 months of use from one AA battery, however.

More importantly, the M570’s large size means you won’t have an issue with comfort. Adding to the size is the blue trackball, which allows for precise cursor movement.

6. Evoluent VerticalMouse D

The last mouse on our list, the Evoluent VerticalMouse D is also the most peculiar.

When placed on a table, the VerticalMouse almost sits perpendicular due to the extreme vertical position. Designed to keep four fingers on one side and your thumb on the other, the VerticalMouse features an additional center button in addition to the scroll wheel, left-, and right-click buttons. That means you’ll want to take some time to learn how to use the mouse.

With the Evoluent Mouse Manager, you can configure all of the VerticalMouse’s buttons. You can also change how the buttons work in certain applications, a nice inclusion for the productivity-focused.
