OnePlus champions power and speed with new OnePlus 7T Pro and McLaren Edition

Share

OnePlus has announced not one but two new additions to the OnePlus 7T family, the OnePlus 7T Pro and the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition. These two top models follow the standard OnePlus 7T announced at the end of September, a phone with which we were already very impressed. While the 7T was revealed at a major event in India, the 7T Pro phones were unveiled at an event in London.

Here’s what you need to know about the two new OnePlus 7T Pro phones.

You’ll instantly recognize the OnePlus 7T Pro, as it’s almost identical to the OnePlus 7 Pro, announced during the first half of the year. It has a 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED touchscreen on the front, which is subtly curved down the sides for an attractive, modern profile. The screen has a 3120 x 1440 pixel resolution and the all-important 90Hz refresh rate for super-smooth scrolling.

While the screen is the same as that on the OnePlus 7 Pro, the processor has been upgraded to the Snapdragon 855 Plus, and is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of memory. This is the only configuration available to buy from OnePlus this time, with the company taking the sensible decision to simplify the range. It does come in a new color called haze blue, though. Under the screen is a fingerprint sensor for security.

How about the camera? There are three lenses on the back, in a vertically stacked central orientation, and the primary lens is a 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor with an f/1.6 aperture, plus optical and electronic stabilization (OIS and EIS). The ultrawide lens has a 117-degree field of vision, 16-megapixels, and an f/2.2 aperture. Finally, the 8-megapixel telephoto lens also has OIS and an f/2.4 aperture. The selfie camera is inside a pop-up module, and has EIS, 16-megapixels, and an f/2.0 aperture.

OnePlus’ Nightscape feature has been extended to work with the wide-angle camera, there’s a new macro mode, a slow-motion video mode that shoots at 960fps, and a hybrid image stabilization (HIS) feature that uses both OIS and EIS for super-smooth video.

What else? The 4,085mAh battery is recharged with OnePlus’s Warp Charge 30T technology, which will see 70% charge reached in only 30 minutes. A full charge will come in about an hour. There’s face unlock, UFS 3.0 for fast app access, Android 10 with OxygenOS 10.1 installed, Bluetooth 5.0, dual stereo speakers, and Dolby Atmos support.

OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition

The second collaboration device from OnePlus’ partnership with McLaren, the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition is considerably more eye-catching than its predecessor, and won’t be mistaken for the regular OnePlus 7T Pro either. Made with a gloss back finish, there’s an intricate pattern underneath the surface for a unique style.

This is matched with flashes of papaya orange, a classic McLaren color that’s found on the phone’s body, around the camera lens, and even on the braided charging cable. Inside the box is a case for the phone that’s covered in soft Alcantara material for a sporty, luxurious feel. Even the box itself is special, with more orange and even a carbon fiber finish. Switch the McLaren Edition phone on, and it has a special dark McLaren theme active, with custom icons, wallpaper, and color scheme.

What about the phone? It’s almost exactly the same as the OnePlus 7T Pro, apart from a boost to 12GB of RAM. You’ll want to buy this for the unique style, and for anyone who loves limited editions, or is a fan of McLaren, it will be extremely tempting.

Price and availability

The OnePlus 7T Pro will not be released in the U.S., but will come to the U.K., Europe, China, Hong Kong, and India. The standard OnePlus 7T Pro comes at 700 British pounds, which equates to around $870. The McLaren edition is a bit more expensive at 800 pounds, or around $995.
