Samsung Galaxy Note 10 & Note 10 Plus

There was no holding back from Samsung, and DJ Koh kicked off the event in the way we all assumed he would — by showing off the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and the Note 10 Plus. Calling it the “ultimate phone for power users”, the new Galaxy Note 10 phones are the most powerful Notes we’ve ever seen — which was a safe bet to make anyway.

But what’s new? For the first time, there’s two Notes. The Note 10 is the smaller of the two, rocking a 6.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, while the Note 10 Plus has an enormous 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display. As many of the leaks predicted, the Note 10 range is following in the S10’s footsteps by shedding even more bezels, and moving the front-facing selfie camera into a punch-hole in the display. Unlike the S10 though, the Note 10 and Note 10 Plus have their single selfie cameras set centrally at the top of the display. There’s an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the display, making the Note 10 an almost seamless device. There are some amazing new color options, including the absolutely stunning Aura Glow model that creates a rainbow effect by refracting light.

Specs

The Note 10 and Note 10 Plus are equipped with the Snapdragon 855, and come with options for 256GB and 512GB of storage. The Note 10 also supports much faster charging speeds with up to 45W supported. It ships with a 25W charger though.

Samsung is using that power well, and is taking gaming extremely seriously. Like the Galaxy Tab S6, the Note 10 will have integrated Discord support, and it will also intelligently manage your phone’s resources to ensure you’re always getting the best possible performance. Not that it probably needs it — the Snapdragon 855 is extremely powerful anyway.

Camera

The camera suite is another area where the two phones converge from each other. Both share the first three lenses — a variable aperture 12-megapixel lens, a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. The larger Note 10 Plus takes it a step further though, adding a time-of-flight sensor that captures depth data, boosting portrait mode accuracy, and even allowing for use as a 3D scanner.

Samsung has put a lot of emphasis on the Note 10’s video capabilities, adding the ability to add Live Focus blur — Samsung’s version of portrait mode — to video. There’s also the ability to zoom-in on sound when you zoom, and there’s even a built-in video stabilizer thanks to the gyroscope.

There’s a new plaything for AR fans too — AR Doodle. This feature uses the S Pen to draw in 3D space. Those drawings will be viewable on the Note 10’s screen, but the special feature is that those drawings and annotations stay fixed in space — so if you draw a hat on someone’s head, the Note 10 will remember where it is if you move around the world. Even better, if your subject moves, they’ll take the hat with them.

S Pen

S Pen functionality has been given an upgrade. You can save your handwritten notes across devices, and machine learning can even take your handwriting and convert it to a PDF, Microsoft Word, or more. The S Pen itself has gotten some cool new features too. It’s now equipped with an accelerometer and other sensors, so you can swish in the air above the phone to control certain apps through the Air Gestures functionality. The S Pen’s battery has been upgraded too, so there’s no need to worry that these new features will drain it faster.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 Under Armor Edition

We thought we might see more of the Galaxy Watch Active 2, and we have. An Under Armor Edition of Samsung’s latest fitness wearable is coming, and it’s integrated with MayMyRun support, and can sync up with Under Armor’s super-duper running shoes.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 Under Armor Edition will be available from September 13, from just $309.
