What you need to know

  • LG Pay is now available in the U.S. for select LG smartphones.
  • It works with both NFC and magnetic stripe terminals — similar to Samsung Pay.
  • Chase, PNC, and US Bank are some of the initial supporters.

LG Pay, LG’s copy and paste alternative to Samsung Pay, has been available in South Korea ever since 2017. There have been lots of rumors between then and now regarding its U.S. launch, but now on July 16, it’s finally arrived.

To no one’s surprise, LG Pay is limited to select LG phones. At launch, LG Pay is only available for the LG G8. In the coming months, it’ll expand to the G7, V50 5G, V40, and V35. Furthermore, it should be available right out of the box with any future LG phones that are released.

Similar to Samsung Pay, LG Pay can be used at virtually any store/restaurant thanks to its combination of NFC and WMC (wireless magnetic communications). In other words, you can use LG Pay virtually anywhere Visa and Mastercard (the two payment networks currently available for the app) are accepted.

Supported banks is rather small at the moment, with LG Pay only working with:

  • Chase
  • PNC Bank
  • US Bank
  • Regions Bank
  • State Employees’ Credit Union (North Carolina)
  • Virginia Credit Union

Rounding out the LG Pay experience, there are a couple of other goodies worth mentioning.

Thanks to a partnership with Swych, you can easily send and receive gift cards between other LG Pay users. Furthermore, if you send a gift card to someone but it’s for a store they don’t shop at, they can exchange it for a different gift card of the same value.

Lastly, LG Pay also comes with “LG Pay Perks” — allowing you to redeem offers and get cashback.
