Dragon Quest Builders 2

The Dragon Quest series is like taking Minecraft and Harvest Moon (or Stardew Valley) and smashing them together. In this game, you collect materials, build from blueprints, complete quests, harvest food, and save humanity from the darkness threatening to take over. I played the first Dragon Quest Builders on PlayStation 4 for over 100 hours, and I’m sure with all the improvements made in this sequel I’ll easily play another 100+.

We were born to kill Nazis, and this time you can do it with a friend! This is the first game in the Wolfenstein series to have a modern co-op adventure. From an in-game perspective, this sequel takes place almost 20 years after the timeline of Wolfenstein II. Play as either Jess or Soph, who are twin sisters from a Nazi-killing veteran father, and get ready to continue the family legacy.

AI is a puzzle game that involves searching for items and solving difficult problems in order to advance in the story. Here you’ll find yourself in the futuristic and technologically advanced world of Tokyo with an interesting set of powers granted to you by various machines. The ending changes based on your decisions, meaning there’s plenty of replay value in the game.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr: Prophecy

Staff favorite

This game is separate from Warhammer 40k Inquisitor – Martyr but does not require a copy of that game in order to play this upcoming release. If you do have the original game, all of your existing characters, items, and progress are carried over to this expansion where the 2.0 ruleset will be applied mechanically to your stats.

What are you playing?

For me, the Dragon Quest Builders 2 is easily the most anticipated game of July 2019. I live for simulation games that involve a little bit of everything from building towns to roleplaying quests— and the Dragon Quest series does a phenomenal job of providing both. The updates coming to the second edition include improved graphics, a larger map, a second-party character to play, more abilities, and so much more. This game released for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan late last year and is finally coming to us on July 12. Get your Banners of Hope ready!

There is also another Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr down the pipeline with the Prophecy edition. This sequel is kind of like a DLC, but not really. You can play the game without ever owning the original Martyr game, but if you did play it, you can transfer your character over to the Prophecy edition to get ahead of the game.

Looking for a relaxing puzzle game instead? Check out AI: The Somnium Files where the mechanics are mostly a search-and-find or puzzle solving for game progression. Otherwise, you can grab the newest Wolfenstein and enjoy a fast-paced first-person shooter with Wolfenstein: Youngblood.
