With the development of the technology, lately every major smartphone developing company has focused on making the screen bigger while keeping the same size as the phone. This brought many challenges along the way. If the screen of the phone is right to the edge, that means that you cannot put the speaker as well as the camera on the front.

The speaker was easily sorted out placing it right on the edge of the phone, but the camera is the main issue. The front camera is one of the most used features on smartphones nowadays with all the social media photography.

Samsung S10 has a screen that circles the front facing camera, but that is not the right solution as the screen on the edge is so small and it is useless. Other companies such as OnePlus tried to create a flip camera that pops up when you are ready to take a selfie, but even this is not a permanent solution as it can affect the durability of the phone with the limited number of pop-ups.

The main solution is to incorporate the front camera behind the screen. OPPO, that in baseball slang – MLB expert picks can confirm this – means hitting the ball to an opposite field, is also a Chinese company. Oppo has entered the top five biggest companies for mobile sales in the world, so we can say they are indeed going for a home-run.

It seems like OPPO found a solution for the front-facing camera, developing a phone that will have a camera behind the screen. They are going to unveil this under-display camera technology tomorrow at the MWC Shanghai trade show. Although many companies have worked on this design such as Samsung and Xiaomi, OPPO would be the first to unveil it. The company has put a little teaser on its social media accounts showing the under-screen camera action.

However, even if this might be a great step forward in smartphone design, this technology still has to go a long way before it is mass produced. This means that the under-display camera technology cannot be comparable with the conventional sensors. We can expect that this technology will produce images with some loss of quality.

It is not surprising, a downgrade of image results is expected when you put the camera under the display. OPPO’s VP Brian Shen also said that users of their latest phone should expect some image quality loss.

This technology is still being developed and it seems that the presentation of this technology by OPPO is just for some bragging rights. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that OPPO will launch the phone with hidden camera anytime soon, and even if they do, we will have to prepare for serious image quality downgrade.

We just have to wait and see when the major companies will have their technology ready to be commercialized. Right now, many of the latest devices come with a couple of front-facing sensors, as well as a wide range and close up lenses which just came out. It seems that it will be very hard to put all that technology behind the screen and still get the same results.

Many Chinese companies have started working on this technology, but it seems like the Korean giant Samsung is going to let them have all the fame while perfecting the perfect image quality behind the screen.

Nonetheless, it is always good when we see innovations from the biggest companies. Some of them turn out to be successful and others not. It is a similar story like the foldable phones that Samsung and Huawei wanted to launch but they quickly stopped all sales due to tech issues.

This happens when you push the limits of technology in a short amount of time. It will be very useful to have phones with screens that go right to the edge, can you imagine watching live sport streams on  your mobile screen with no object in the path? We hope everything turns out as it should be and we have the opportunity to try this technology
