It seems like some owners of LG’s last year’s Nexus 5X are experiencing some problems with their handset.
According to several reports on Reddit, some Nexus 5X devices are affected by a hardware malfunction that causes the device to enter a boot loop. Naturally, users faced with this issue took advantage of their warranty and send the phone in for repairs.
In most similar cases, while in service original unit’s problems get fixed, or users are awarded a refurbished unit or even a new one altogether.
But here things are a bit different. It seems that LG is unable to fix the fault causing the damage to the Nexus 5X due to a hardware piece that’s out of stock. So the company is issuing full refunds to owners who are faced with this issues. From Reddit:
“We’re sorry to hear that you’ve experienced a problem with your LGH790 and appreciate you giving us the opportunity to provide a warranty repair. We have received your device at our repair facility but currently a part to complete the repair is out of stock and is no longer available.
To rectify this issue, we would like to offer you a refund for the full amount of your device. That amount will be determined by your sales receipt. Your refund can take approximately 4 weeks to receive due to the holiday.”
While Google has stopped selling the Nexus 5X after the Pixels went on sale, it looks like LG has stopped manufacturing it as well. Even so, third-party retailers might still offer the Nexus 5X like for example Amazon.
The Nexus 5X was released in October 2015, so users who have purchased the phone staring November are still within the standard one year warranty grace period. If you too are having problems with your phone, maybe you should contact LG and get your full refund.
Naturally, you need to be prepared to engage into a lengthy verification process and LG warns the refund might take up to 4 weeks due to the holiday season.
The Nexus 5X was the more affordable handset from the Nexus duo unveiled last year. The handset features a 5.2-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, a Snapdragon 808 under the hood plus 2GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage.
The handset also took advantage of a 12.3MP/5MP camera combo plus a fingerprint scanner and a 2,700 mAh battery.
If you have a malfunctioning Nexus 5X, getting a full refund is quite a good option to have, unless you really love your phone and you don’t want another one as a replacement.
