My Expert Opinion: How to Prepare for Microsoft 70-767 Exam and Pass It with Flying Colors

Share

After preparing for a month, I sat for the Microsoft 70-767: Implementing a Data Warehouse using SQL exam. I am glad to tell you that I passed it. According to the Microsoft Exam Policy and the Non-Disclosure Agreement, I can’t reveal information about the exam questions and answers and I’m not going to do that. I only want to use this platform to share my experience with you, how I prepared, and what was it like to take the Microsoft MCSA 70-767 Real Answers.

Microsoft 70-767: Details

  • Exam format

The practice test was worth investing in because I got a hold of the question type and how to interpret it because in the real exam they sometimes have a lot of extra irrelevant information in order to confuse you. It might also have too little information, and you have to interpret the question on your own. The practice tests taught me how to highlight important and relevant information.

  • Exam time

The total time you get to answer all the questions of most of the Microsoft exams is 120 minutes. You also usually get 30 minutes to read the instructions, sign the NDA, and comment on questions at the end of the test. Thus, the total seat time is 150 minutes, but the exam time is only 120 minutes.

  • Planning

The questions have a lot of text and information to comprehend. Make sure you manage your time accordingly. There are a total of around 50 questions, which presupposes you have not much time for answering. If you get stuck on a question, don’t waste your time trying to solve it, mark it and move on. Once you cope with all the questions and still have time remaining, you can return to it.

You might face a type of question that you might not have seen before, or it might be related to something that is not mentioned in the exam topics. If such a situation arises, it’s better to utilize the elimination way to narrow down your choices. If that doesn’t work for you, make your best educated guess.

Microsoft 70-767: Preparation Process

Before starting to study, I did a little research on the Internet and made a small road map for me to follow so that I can cover all the points in the period I had. I divided my study into three parts:

  1. Finish three online edXtraining courses.

According to the Microsoft exam preparation options, three online courses are suggested. I completed all these three edX courses:

  • Delivering a Relational Data Warehouse
  • Data Cleansing with Data Quality Services (DQS)
  • Implementing ETL with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

I took all the labs and demos regarding the field, as well as the MDS and DQS courses, and they helped me build my concepts and gain a better understanding of the topics. In order to save time, I watched all the videos at a faster speed. The total time I spent on these online courses and labs was around 40 hours. These courses helped me refresh my concepts and gave me a great summary of each topic. The demos and labs helped me polish my experience. I was very satisfied and felt that starting with these courses was the right decision.

  1. Go through all the key skills measured thoroughly and confirm that you have a good concept and know how to complete each task.

After finishing each course, I moved to the next step. I was going through all the basic skills measured and confirmed that I had a good concept and knew how to complete each task. I opened the list of topics on the Microsoft website and went through each heading and sub-heading. I made sure that I had a solid concept regarding each area and I could easily explain the subject and complete each task, for example, regarding the implementation of an ETL solution that supports incremental data extraction. I made sure I was aware of all the methods of doing each task. The total time it took me to study and polish each skill measured was around 12 hours.

  1. Complete the actual practice test and keep doing so until my result becomes over 90%.

In order to practice for the 70-767 exam, I purchased the practice tests. I invested only in this thing through the period of study, and it was worth it. The questions included are multiple choice, drag and drop, option buttons, dropdown lists, case studies, and questions regarding the GUI. With each one, there was a robust explanation of the answer, which helped me polish my skills. The practice tests helped me get familiar with the style of questions, and I learned how to interpret them and understand them. It spent a large amount of time going through the detailed explanation for each question and the links provided by these explanations to external articles.

Throughout the studying period, I took help from the SQL Server Docs and made notes.

In a nutshell

I spent around a week preparing for Microsoft 70-767. However, the time could vary according to your experience and background. Make sure you start preparing well before the exam date so you can cover all the skills measured. With no doubt, it is a very complex test that requires much effort and commitment.

My piece of advice to all candidates is to go through all the topics measured. Make sure you know all the concepts and how to carry out all the tasks. Don’t be shy to take help. I did not take any classes but if you believe you need to, then don’t hesitate.

Best of luck, dear candidates!
