Crash Avoidance Technology Aims to Reduce Traffic Deaths

Share

In 2017 alone, an estimated 40,100 people were killed in auto accidents. Just a 1% drop from 2016. While new technology is being built into increasingly safer vehicles, drivers still find ways to get injured while on the road. And despite the introduction of alternative modes of transportation, people are still getting behind the wheel more than ever. That’s why health organizations and major auto manufacturers continue to develop crash avoidance technology with the hopes of completely removing human error as a factor for auto accidents.

What it Means for the Roads

Reducing the amount of traffic deaths is something everyone involved in the auto industry can get behind. Incorporating new safety technology allows manufacturers to increase the value of their vehicles, while protecting their customers at the same time. Insurance companies will be happy to pay out less in injury claims, and the consumer will feel safer and more confident on the road. Unfortunately, it will take time for most of the cars on the roads to have collision avoidance tech, but it is a feature growing more popular by the year.  But with the average car lasting about 11 years, it will take roughly a decade to truly incorporate this new safety feature in a way that will have a major impact on our roads.

How it Works

Depending on the vehicle, the crash avoidance system may vary in how it functions. Naturally, the more expensive the car, the better the technology is. Some models include automatic braking when sensors pick up objects that cross the path of the vehicle. Other models will also include a system of warnings when your car detects nearby objects. Some of these features include lane departure warning, blind spot detection, and adaptive headlights. So no matter which type of collision avoidance your car has, you can bet that the vehicle will be safer because of it. It’s also important to note that the features are constantly being updated and improved with each new model – so as the technology gets better, the drivers will be safer.

As time goes on, safety technology continues to develop, and people find alternative modes of transportation – crash avoidance technology will likely be just another way to stay safe while traveling. However, in the present day – it’s clear that this tech is at the forefront of making our roads safer. The next few years of car manufacturing are a crucial time for introducing new safety features, and with the help of crash avoidance technology, the future looks bright.
