Google will be helping the country of Cuba connect to the Internet. In an interview, President Barack Obama stated Google plans to announce it will help expand broadband and Wi-Fi access to the Internet in that country.
ABC News anchor David Muir chatted with Obama as part of his historic visit to Cuba, and asked him about that subject, stating that just 5% of Cuban homes have Internet access. Obama replied:
“One of the things that we’ll be announcing here is that Google has a deal to start setting up more WiFi and broadband access on the island.”
Details about that deal, including how much it will cost and how expansive it will be, have yet to be revealed. Google previously allowed Cuban residents to download and use its Chrome browser legally in that country in 2014 and later that year it let residents access free apps on the Google Play Store.
