If you’re a fan of American reality TV shows but you live in the UK, Ireland or Australia, you’ll soon be in luck. NBCUNiversal announced Hayu, a streaming service dedicated to the high-quality content only reality television can offer. The monthly subscription will give viewers in those locales access to over 3,000 episodes of shows like The Real Housewives, Top Chef franchises, Made in Chelsea, The Millionaire Matchmaker and RuPaul’s Drag Race. And, perhaps most importantly, Keeping Up with the Kardashians and its spinoffs will be included, too.
What’s more, new episodes will be added every week, with many hitting the service the same day they air in the States. If you need to catch up, “box sets” of previous seasons will be available for binge watching. As you might expect, the subscription includes access on a range of devices, including mobile, desktop and connected TVs. There’s “full social media integration” for easy access to the channels of the (reality) stars. That integration will include pre-edited clips that users can distribute via personal accounts as they see fit.
Hayu is set to arrive in March, and it’ll be priced at £3.99 in the UK, €4.99 in Ireland and $5.99 in Australia. If you’ll recall, NBCUniversal did the same for its comedy-focused Seeso streaming option before it debuted in January. It looks like the company is dedicated to genre-specific on-demand services, betting that customers will be lured by lower rates, even if it means a smaller content library.
